I think we need a power forward more than we need a combo guard. But if we were needing one, I would say someone like Lou Williams

That was incorrect, it was 9 on Lin (played close to 8mins) & 11 on Douglas (about 4mins). And most people think Douglas is a very good defender (at least the coaches thought so) & I think he is at least not a bad defender.

Williams is a career 35% 3pt shooter, and his 3pt% & fg% have regressed over the years. He shot 7/7 in the 1st Q which is an anomaly based on the statistics. Subsequently he reverted to the means shooting 3/8 the rest of the game.

This is an excellent example of misleading statistics. You throw out the box score stat of how the opposing point guard did, but totally neglect the fact that, while the opposing point guard garnered those stats, it wasn't just Lin guarding him -- just to play devils advocate here.

My answer: Aaron Brooks. Albeit I'm not sure if he's still feeling salty about how he left Houston.

There's no need to look for your spreadsheets. Just use Shamsports or some other online site that already does the team salary calculations for you, including which parts are guaranteed or options. Toss in the necessary cap holds or roster charges and you should have the figures. Besides, you'd have to wait for the annual tabulations at the end of the season of BRI so that the league can set the following year's cap anyway, before you can calculate the exact free cap space.

And you have no idea what other roster moves may be taken over the course of the next season or what the salary situation will look like when the trade deadline comes around next year. At that point, if a disgruntled 2nd superstar becomes available, but you can't get the deal done because you'd have to take back enough salary to go over the apron, you'll be hitting yourself in the head for hardcapping yourself to the apron due to an unwise and unnecessary sign-and-trade that you entered into at the beginning of the season that subjected the team to those draconian rules. Foolish to cripple flexibility if you don't need to.

did you seriously just say harden is good enough to not fill a "traditional role" like lebron? the man is a turnover machine whose offense is predicated on drawing fouls... the dude has his own tongue in cheek, patronizing hash tag for gods sake. you seriously dont see a problem with this? that is going to take you to the promised land? peoples gotta wake up over here...

as for lin you seem to be very negative on him as if your mind were already made up on him. have you seen all his games in ny? and im not talking about highlights on youtube, but entire games. the haters gonna say it was a fluke. the fans gonna say he can do that every game if it werent for melo/harden. yadda yadda yadda. the truth is probably somewhere in between...

Beyond misleading. Flat out incorrect information. Lawson put up 16/4 (on 33% shooting) in his last game versus the Rockets, not 21/7. It's one thing to think Lin's D is not good, but to make up information to make your point is pathetic.

^ Not to mention the PG position now is the deepest position in the nba. All those PGs are either 1st option or 2nd option for their respective teams. It's only natural to give up 20+ points to a 1st/2nd option provided those players shoot enough. The team would have bigger problem giving up 15-20 points to non scoring 4th-5th options like Sefolosha, Danny Green, Tony Allen of this world daily.

Jordan Hamilton of the Nuggets (2013 Salary: $1,121,520 with 3 years remaining). They are loaded at the wing, too. He is a three point threat that plays some defence.

They could take on a power forward, too; if / when they choose to give up on Randolph (like evreyone else has).

(more of a swing than a combo but maybe a better fit --> Bevelery is playing well at the back-up point)

Patty Mills is a horrible chucker. We don't want anything to do with him.

While I would probably enjoy watch Lin play backup at lob city (I enjoyed his interactions with Blake Griffin at BBVA last year lol), I don't think Eric Bledsoe would be a upgrade over Lin. I always found it fickle to compare starter with backup b/c the level of competition the play against and the level of defence set for them are different. I do like Bledsoe's potential so far this year, but as far as how he's doing as a starter, I'd say his stock is really dropping since he started.

Haven't really seen Shump play yet this year, from my impression last year, love his defensive intensity, isn't exactly sold on his play making abilities. There were a few games before Lin blew up that Shump was playing PG under D'Antoni... it wasn't pretty.
