I just now ordered my first cell phone....a Nokia 3650 from Amazon.com. After two $150 rebates...one from Amazon and the other from T-Mobile (I got the $39.99 plan; same one as Mulder) I'm getting it for free. I was going to wait until my birthday next month to get the phone but after spotting this deal I decided to act immediately.
300 anytime, unlim nights and weekends (9pm) sprintpcs, 30 bucks. I used to hate sprint, but more towers sprouted up and reception is perfect. i used to have major problems in sugar land a couple of years back, but now it's great.
T-Mobile, 300 anytime mins, free on weekend, 35 bucks a month including tax and all the other craps. this plan looked really good a year ago, but right now since my contract is up, i'm thinking about switch to ATT becoz they got some really good phones for FREE! i ran into this site called nokiausa.com, and u can get this cool nokia 3650 phone for FREE if u join the ATT plan. plus the plan doesn't look so horrible either. i don't know about u, but that looks really attractive to me, i'm willing to try it out.
oh, my bad, that was a t-mobile plan, looks like i don't have to swich at all, just have to upgrade my plan.
That's the phone I have. Reception wise it's great, never had a problem with it. Unfortunately, the way they made the antenna is pretty shoddy - they didn't prepare it for the stress that a phone antenna goes through in a pocket. I bought the phone beginning of January and the antenna base snapped in half during the middle of March. If you plan on keeping it in your jeans or slacks pocket, I would suggest a different phone. If you're a belt clip type of guy or wear a lot of cargo pants, you won't have a problem. I know at least four people with v60's, and they've all had the same problem multiple times, other than the one guy who keeps it on a clip. Cingular will replace it under warranty twice in a year, as long as the two times are not within 3 months of each other. Otherwise it'll cost you $35 to get fixed.
Another thing to consider is. .. what do YOUR friends have Most of my friends have sprint. . so I have sprint you might think I'm a lemming .. . but The PCS to PCS minutes at free I talk to them most often so the chances of me going over is less I think T-mobile and AT&T have something similar Rocket River
I have heard people slam Sprint also...but I and the rest of the people at our company have had zero problems with them. On our recent trip to Chicago, we never ran into a spot where we lost service. I'm not sure how much the service is since the company is paying it, but our office manager's new phone has free roaming, free long distance, unlimited web...
I use AT&T GSM service because my phone works here and in Europe where I travel a lot. I hate the GSM service here in the states, it sucks...I got that fancy dinky Ericcson phone, and can not wait to get rid of it. DD
I looked up some reviews and a lot of people compain about ATT service in Houston. That sucks, because they have some really cool phones.
T68i? Update on the whole rebate thing... just got to thinking I got this phone in April. Where's my rebate? Called T-Mobile: No record of it being sent in. I have to fax a copy to a supervisor to resubmit it. Amazon.com rebate site says they have no record of that one either... have to follow up there also. Jeez, what a pain in the arse.
I bought the Sanyo 8100 clear screen picture phone last week. I've been wanting a smaller flip phone, but since I was an existing customer I couldn't get the deal ($99) they're offering now. I think it's BS a 4 year customer couldn't get better than a 10% discount, but I ain't b****in too much since I've been very happy with Sprints service. As for the quality of the pictures, they're ok I guess. PCS free and clear plan with vision: $60 dollars a month, 500 minutes, unlimited weekend and nights, unlimited PSC to PCS calling and unlimited internet and picture sharing.
arkoe.. thanks for the review... I ended up getting that phone. Supposedly this is the newest version of it, and I read somewhere they made some changes to the antenna, but I'm not sure if that is true (the box says v60i). After reading the antenna thing, I'll have to think about it while I still have the 14 days to change my mind. It was the only flip phone they had free after rebate, so I went with it. i generally try not to stuff it in my pockets unless I have some looser clothes that I dont think will tear it up, but if I keep it I'll definitely have to keep that in mind. Wasn't aware Cingular would something like that, did they make you send it in or just go by the store? Since you mentioned belt clip, I'll have to check into one of those, I assume cingular store would have that. Thanks for the info. One last thing for cingular customers.. I heard something about them switching to GSM.. I assume the TDMA (i think thats what it called) towers will still be up so I can still use the phone after they get the GSM done

Its a good phone, you just have to be careful with it and make sure you don't put it anywhere where the antenna will have a lot of pressure on it. Wasn't aware Cingular would something like that, did they make you send it in or just go by the store? They have service stations in some of the stores, but not all of them. You have to call or go by a store and find out where the closest store with a technician is. I've gone to two different ones in different cities, and neither of them were more than 15 minutes from where I was. Since you mentioned belt clip, I'll have to check into one of those, I assume cingular store would have that. Thanks for the info. Yep, the Cingular store sells them, they have a couple of different types. One last thing for cingular customers.. I heard something about them switching to GSM.. I assume the TDMA (i think thats what it called) towers will still be up so I can still use the phone after they get the GSM done I'm probably wrong, but I think they're supposed to switch at the end of the year. I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen when they do.
same here! I'm fed up with this thing. I really need to get a new plan. I don't talk much, the main thing I'm looking for is free nights and weekends + free long distance. My anytime minutes can be very small for all I care.
No kidding, I thought it was my phone that was screwing up! That thing is like 3 years old. I'm down to Nokia 3595 and Nokia 3560, can't decide...
You probably have a dual band phone or older. They're using triband phones now, meaning that your phone isn't picking up all the towers.
