Successful Trade Scenario Congratulations on a successful trade. Due to Orlando and the L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Orlando and the L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. Stern wants the Rockets to stay irrelevant He doesnt want us to get that superstar( either that or we are just cursed)
Ha Ha, I like the sarcasm, but really, does this make sense from a trade perspective and btw I don't think the Lakers would still have a trade exception with Turkoulo(sp) contract coming back.
I don't see the big deal (or maybe don't understand it), but the entire league owns NO and they had a vote. Someone please explain the problem with this.
the problem? It was a legitimate traded that they knew was going to happen. The NOLA GM kept them informed of the players coming and going. The NAB front office had no problem with it and then when its finished 2 few owners scream and it's stopped. My problem? Stern is a ****ing ****.
Where are you getting that the league actually voted on this? Are you just getting that from the suggestion that Dan Gilbert made to the commissioner to have a vote in his email complaint?
So the problem is that they stopped it not because it was a bad deal for NO, but because they didn't want another big 3. So, why hasn't NO found an owner? Does the reason lay on the league or no buyers?
To me the problem lies within the league owning the team. They can't make sound decisions that are in the best interest of both their teams.
Just checked in realgm, and if Odom is added to the deal to the Rockets the trade still works. Rockets Lineup assuming Thabeet is amnestied. Nene,Hill Gasol,Patterson Odom,Morris,Budinger Lee, Williams Lowry,Flynn Not a bad lineup
And I'll take my chances with the above lineup even against the Lakers. There are matchup problems with Howard having to deal with 2 seven footers like he's had problems with Boston in the past. Wouldn't worrry much about the Lakers. They'd have the big names but not necessary enough big games to dominate the West like they and everyone else may mistakenly believe. The league is about matchups and the Rockets with the size from this lineup would cause mismatches for anyone in the league and oh BTW this lineup plays a little D as well.
The league/owners had already okayed Demps to work on trades The league/owners told GMs that checked (including the Lakers) that Demps had authority to trade Paul The league/owners knew for months that Paul wanted out and had time to decide if they would trade him or not The league/owners knew for weeks that big markets (Knicks, Celtics, Lakers) wanted Paul and never laid down conditions The owners never voted on the deal The league publicly declared that the owners didn't squash the deal, that Stern did so for "basketball reasons" - not reasons concerning the Hornets themselves. Stern knew that this was a 1-2 setup for Lakers to also get Howard, so did plenty of other execs (Bynum + picks ~ Lopez + picks, and add in the $9M TE to absorb Turk like the Nets planned to do with cap space). He knew another superfriends team up, in LA of all places would result in his ouster by the owners that employ him. Because New Orleans has been a gigantic mistake and the Hornets have been a financial disaster ever since moving there. Shinn gave up after the league forced him back from OKC (where he made a mint), his deal to sell fell through when the buyer saw the books, and the league had to buy him out. No one wants to touch that team if it's staying in Louisiana. It's Saints and LSU country, and they don't give two craps about the Hornets. The Jazz left, and that was a far more affluent New Orleans and one that had more interest in basketball.
Actually the league didnt have a vote. The league put people in charge to handle the team affairs to allow them to be separate. If the teams league were able to vote on issues involving the Hornets it would be a clear conflict of issues. The main issue is that official statement from Stern says that this trade did not benefit the Hornets, when most evaluators say not only did Hornets benefit themselves, but they benefit the most from this trade. Also, this is the best possible deal the Hornets could make. Noone has ever stated how this trade hurts NO.
