Sarcasm does not transcend well in the written form........and it may be offensive to some. Let's not forget that we are a global community and they might not understand nor care for the sarcastic comments. But, I do understand DD
I'm not going to deconstruct someone else's joke, because that would be lame. He's trying to be funny for those that get his humor. For the rest, he evidently doesn't care and trusts they won't take offense to something they don't even understand. That's the OP's mistake, I think. If people see a race-related joke, and they don't get it, most will assume it must be racist. Or, at least, it is "disturbing".
Good point. The OP listing AJ as an option says everything about his point. Watching other teams in playoffs is just boring...
Thats why i ignored the humor and just moved to the possibilities. If the rockets can get what they got for tracy, they could get more for yao. I really dont want a heavy contract because i need to reset my window. I have brooks, martin, lowry, hill, chase, and trevor pretty close in age. The poster before thought i was crazy for mentioning thabeet, but i have my reasons. Brooks,Martin, chase, scola(for now) are kinda my scorers. Sure they're perimter guys, but I think thabeet is going to be deke like in his rebounding, shot blocking and defense. He's 20 or 21 and on a rookie deal. If we could get a guy like him at the 5,sign scola to a 3 yr deal with hopes of hill overtaking him in 2 yrs, and all the draft picks, we could really set our team up with great roster balance in both court and money values. Memphis might be willing to give up thabeet, this years 1st and a first in 2012. That would give the rockets 2 1st round picks this year, the ability to swap with new york next yr, and 2-1st rd picks in 2011 and 2012. This team would be primed for a long successive run and have a plethora of young talent with cap space. They won 42 games without, but couldve won more had they gotten martin earlier and some kind of size at the 5. I know I will catch my typical label, but i think this patchwork they will attempt to do will only end in a 4 or 5 seed without being a serious threat to win the title.
I'm of African Descent. Not offended by the thread.....I just think its one of many stupid thread in GARM
It sounds like you think the Rockets should focus on adding young talent and building for the future, instead of trying to make moves to become a championship contender next year. With your approach, how many seasons do you think it would take to build up to legitimate championship contention?
Durvasa, i think they should put themselves in the ok city, portland window which is about 3 yrs. If they get carl landry/aaron brooks type of progress out of thabeet and hill. The overload of picks they would have would allow that special move if they needed. Look, i respect yao for his work ethic and he's just overall a good person, but waiting around and playing him 25 mins while he's eating up 17m is crazy. If he plays this year and puts up 13-7, do we pay him on the assumption that in 30 mins he will be 16ppg and 8 rebs? If so, what is that price tag? Do we ignore the missed games in the past and the risk going forward? Personally, i dont think its worth the headache and uncertainty.
Such a ridiculous question to pose!! 1) Yao Ming is damaged goods at present. 2) Yao would not want to go to another team as he wants to make a success of his Rockets career. If he was to be traded it would mean that he had failed with the Rockets and he would retire from the NBA and continue his successful business career. 3) If Yao is gone no star player will want to join the Houston Rockets. So the team would be in a rebuilding mode ............................................................................................................ 4) If Yao comes back to the Rockets and regains his form and plays most of this season then every team in the NBA will want to have him on their team
No he is not! Simply put lebigez just dislikes Yao Ming If Yao is murdered he will be the No1 suspect
Thabeet is an interesting proposition, you solidify your defense and rebounding and allow the current crop of offensive players to keep getting theirs. Leeb, that is a well thought out proposal that has merit. No one is saying Yao sucks, but taking a risk on him with his injury history is scary, he is Bill Walton part two.....how much and how long would you give him a contract for, knowing that if he gets injured again it dooms the franchise to years of mediocrity eating up the best years of Martin, Scola, Brooks, Hill, Ariza and Budinger.... DD
Not fair IMO to compare Yao to Bill Walton. Walton didn't have today's medical technology. Why can't Yao go down the same health road as big Z? I'm not ready to give up on Yao, now if he gets hurt again this year, depending on the severity of the injury, maybe the Rockets should move on. Yes you may not get anything in return, but worth the risk IMO. I will say that if someone wanted to overpay for Yao right now, I would definitely consider it.
Big Z is a role player, do you think Yao would accept that role and the $$$ that comes with it? And life is not fair......Yao is a great guy and a hard worker, but the Rockets need to do what is best for the Rocket's organization and that just might be moving on from Yao. DD
If I were in charge, I'd bet on Yao. He's a low risk financially, as his revenue generating potential has never been in doubt; what he can bring to the court is simply irreplaceable by any player in the league; and his work ethic increases his chance of returning to form.
Yetti, has any star player ever decided they wanted to play with yao even when he was healthy? I dont care about him murdering the #1 prospect. I'm trying to build the best team i can have that gives me the best chance at a ring. I think the tinkering and yao back in limited role even with bosh equals 4-5 seed. Yao goes down again with bosh getting max, what do we have? Normally and in the past i would say ship scola off also, but his durability and consistency minus yao and landry after the trade really jumped out to me. I wouldnt give him more than 3 yrs and more than 7m per, but i think he would be a good bridge in the transition. His lack of defense would be covered up by a guy like thabeet. 2 yrs from now, hopefully hill would be pushing him either off the team or to the bench. The notion that a center or more specifically yao is needed to win a title is bs. you need a post presence both offensively and defensively, but that doesnt have to be 1 guy. We were blessed dream used to be that guy,but look at boston with perkins.
Why would you bet on a player who is skilled, but very limited, making max, who hasmissed over 160 games in the last 4 yrs? Shaq was a better player when he was traded, but amid all things, the injury risk and pricetag wasnt worth it.
We were a 4-5 seed with a terrible Artest, and just Yao. That was a 53 win team and losing Landry, Artest, Wafer, but adding Ariza, Martin, Bosh, Budinger and a better Brooks is gonna net you atleast 5-6 more wins. If we get Bosh, we are fighting for the #1 seed @ 58-62 wins.
I said Big Z "health wise" if Yao is healthy he is a far superior player than Z, and won't be a role player. I'm not convinced Yao will be the same but am cautiously optimistic. When you are a skilled 7'6 guy that can impact games I would give him another shot to stay healthy. People seem to forget that Yao is a player, not just a big oaf. Once again, I'll say unless there are trade options that are a significant upgrade, I'm still in yao's corner
I'm of human descent, American Texan to be exact. and while I recognize that Carl thinks he is making a point about how asians are considered lesser players than guys with darker pigmented skin....this thread is not really about that anymore is it? So, since I now find myself with lots of moderatin' time, Im a gonna say good night sweet prince to this thread and ask you put a bit more thought into your next one.
