What she said...Nothing really touristy, just a lot of great places to go and hang out...Same with Dallas, nothing touristy, but a couple of spots I like to hang out, you just have to know where to go... I agree with FFB...I would also suggest Ruggles, a good place off of Westheimer, close to Downtown...Also, near Kemah, Tookies, a great Burger palce... As for this guy... I don't know where to begin...I've lived in Dallas 2 1/2 years and Houston is a better city and better place to live, period...Houston may have smog and humidity, but it doesn't have the crapy air that causes allergies and sucky people...Dallas has a lot of snobby people that really have no business being snobby...Don't get me wrong, not everyone is like that, but the majority...The roads suck in Dallas...Have you driving the Tollway lately? What about Downtown? you may be stuck in uptown where all the wannabe's are, you know fantasy land... Bad drivers, please, Dallas people do not know how to drive...Just try driving on 75 or 635...Traffic is far worse up here, again, try 75 and 635...Illegals, please there everywhere, not just Houston...btw, illegals come in the form of all nationalities...Poor city, you've been living in Dallas way too long...Dallas is the home of the $30,000 millionaire...Just go out any weekend night and see all the credit cards and people getting in debt...You probably like the Mavs, well, guess what, they suck too... btw, Freebirds > Chipotle...
true! lets not forget the david carr texan fans believe anyone without a 713 phone number is not really a houstonian.
oxymoron? LOL No, seriously, how do you know they're illegal? Do you ask for documentation? And if you can't handle 45 towards downtown you're a sissy.
ridiculous, particularly if the comparison is to dallas as it is in this thread. hell, dallas has 5 major sports teams and only 2 of them actually play in dallas. at least the rockets, astros, dynamo and texans actually play in the city they represent. honestly, if you think there's nothing to do in houston then you'd probably say that of every other city in the country.
There are some interesting facets of Houston. For example the Chinese district of Bellaire. Not many cities have street signs written in a foreign language. Also the Project Row project in the Third Ward. It was just written about this past weekend in the New York Times. They called it the finest example of public use art in the nation. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/17/a...em&ex=1166590800&en=7d16b3ae5fcc979c&ei=5087 Museum district is also good if you are into that stuff.
There is a difference between bad driving and reckless driving. Just compare the cars. I was on 1-10 yesterday and there was a old blue Tercel smoking like cray. I was honking my ass off trying to get this guy to get the hell off the highway. People don't know how to get onto the highway either. You can't get on a ramp with no acceleration lane going 30 mph!!!! Its BS. Then they know the Dairy Ashford exit is an exit only lane but they dont want to exit and completely stop until they have a chance to move over!!! And then don't you just hate it when someone cuts you off and you have to slow down It happens every time I drive and I have no choice but to honk at them until they get back to the speed I was going. Sometimes I even throw pennies at them. Where is the courtesy?? Dallas is different because they are reckless drivers. I live right off of 75 and take that everywhere I go. I can't even keep up driving 80, which is a welcoming change. I've seen more accidents in Dallas in the 2.5 years living there than I have my whole life in Houston. That's no joke. Rush hour traffic is considered horrible and I'm cruising at 35mph. Compared to 5-7 mph here in Houston, Im pretty sure Dallas is better traffic wise. Every road in Dallas is paved. Even in third ward. Its like gliding on ice. Have you ever hit a pothole in Dallas? I've had 2 flat tires because of those damn things in Houston. When I was making the traffic lights hanging on a wire comparison, I was actually comparing Preston to Westheimer. You can just imagine that yourself and figure out what I was trying to get at. More importantly, have you ever been in a position where a red light is coming up and you want to make a right turn but there is a car in front of you. Is it unheard of that the guy in front of you notices your right blinker and moves to the left lane so you can freely turn right? No its not. It's really not. This has happened to me at least 5 times in Dallas. It's probably the nicest gesture anyone has done for me on the roads. Never in my life has this happened in Houston. I didn't even know people thought about doing this Dallas actually consists of a young generation. According to Forbes, Dallas has a better culture, better night life, and better job growth. The only thing Houston has over Dallas is the cost of living. I love Houston. This is my home and where my family is. But considering that I am not settling down soon and want an up and coming place to live, Dallas is the clear choice. I don't know where you live in Dallas, but I dont see any of these illegal immigrants at all. I just looked it up and Dallas has 105,000 and Houston has 400,000. That's a huge disparity. That's like having 4 Sugar Lands illegally stuck around this city! WOW! As for the money, just compare the demographics and you will see for yourself that Dallas is richer than Houston (Houston does have far more millionaires and this is what makes the stat so pathetic). I'm not trying to convince anybody, I'm just stating that I enjoy living in Dallas more than Houston for these subtle reasons. I'll probably settle down eventually in Richardson, Garland, or Frisco. Anyways, Denver is my favorite city, San Diego is my second, then Dallas comes in third.
Wow, in the year I lived in Dallas, I didn't realize I was actually living in Utopia. I think redefined left out the part where at all red lights, beautiful virgins enter your car, play with your sack, and give you a nice massage. And the dogs there, they poop Susan B. Anthony dollars. It's true.
OMG thanks guys! i never thought i would get so many responses! (although half of the posts are trashing Houston and/or dallas ) since i am not a strip club guy i will go to museum and to shopping mall instead...(where is the museum district btw? is it really called the Museum District?) so NASA is a must see... Galveston is a nice place to go... next time i might also visit Dallas to see why you all hate that city so much
There is plenty to do in Houston...if you know where everything is. For the casual visitor, Houston is a black hole when it comes to entertainment, unless you want to drive forever. Houston used to have something fun to do within the city limits. It was a nice little amusement park called Astroworld. Unfortunately, the Texans got greedy with the parking spaces and forced Six Flags to sell one of its most profitable parks. I wonder how many times Vince Young rode The Ultra Twister?
you also realize chipotle is owned by mcdonalds and is absolute garbage, right? i honestly wish ill-will towards you.... here's to you getting 2 flat tires, an unmowed lawn, and all your credit cards maxing out at the club this weekend.
Can someone get the link to the NY thread? I'm going after Xmas for my first time and not sure where/what to do for 4 days. Thanks!
i dont think anyone from new york is going to houston to feast on chipotle or free birds, especially when there's great texmex here. if they had chipotle at reliant stadium, it would be the best concessions there.
what!! no sad face for being rockets fan, be proud! rocket fans of the world and universe are welcome in this house!
