I was at the smurf trying to write a report at midnight. A friend was on this site and recommended it. So naturally, I decided to write the report the next day. I lurked for about a week before first post.
I think I found it through a Google search. I was really excited about Scottie Pippen joining the Rockets. Ugh. I lurked for a year, until I got angry enough to post .
I have got to stop being drunk and out of town. The long term effects are not good! First a kid, now this!!
Yeah, I remember when it was on Clutch's sister's web site/server. Back in the good old days with the Super Mario columns and before the BBS started. The main page had a TON of personality, but now the personality has moved to the BBS and the front page is almost strictly professional. I think it's a good combinitation, though I'd like to see Clutch pick a player and start writing columns as that player again. I really miss the Super Mario column. I waited a long time to post because I was already spending 3 hours a day on the web site, I didn't want to make it worse. Good news is my time on the site only went up an hour since I started posting. B
I have a friend that was in the same graduating class as Clutch in High School. Since we went to the same High School and I was a Rockets Fan I thought I would check out. The rest is history...
Im not sure but I spent a year lurking back in the .com days. I guess im still kind of a lurker looking at my post count
A friend mentioned it to me. I posted under a different name briefly (Maria Elie) and lurked for a long time before actually registering.
Did a search that turned up Marvin Schubert's Houston Rockets Page. Followed a link from there and found utopia.
I was in dire need of pre-draft Rockets news and found this kick ass site with lots of "scoops" called nbatalk.com. After a couple of days I realized I had in fact stumbled on the most vast collection of idiots ever assembled in the free world and found a site with Rockets scoops and in debth insight run by a guy who knew so much about the Rockets his name was actually The Rocket Guy. I mean can you believe it, his parents had the forsight to know just how "inside" this guy would end up being and named him accordingly. After about 15 minutes I found that I had mistakenly found the one site worse than the previous and continued my search. Then my prayers were answered when a fellow Rockets fan e-mailed me to suggest this site after reading one of my pathetic pleas for real info on one of those crap sites and sent me here. I lurked for quite a while before posting, saving up my genius before finally unleashing it in the greatest single post of all time: That has got to be the saddest first post of all time.
Way back in the summer of '96, before the trade for Barkley, I was waiting for an experiment to run at work and decided to see if there were any good Rockets pages on the Internet. (I was still on a letdown after the Rocks were eliminated from the playoffs... there just wasn't enough Rocket news after that to keep me happy.) I came to a page run by a guy called Deuce. It was an offshoot of his better-known KISS Asylum. Deuce's page was fairly well updated, but he kept referring to a site called Clutch City. Eventually, he decided to quit maintaining his Rockets page and told everybody to go to Clutch City (CC '97, was it?). I was a little frightened and confused by the page, which was full of strange features like "Clutch Mario". I think I posted occasionally that year, on some old form of the BBS, and it was fun to hang out in the chatroom during games and drafts (where I would modify my username to something making fun of previous draft choices, such as Isabel_Turkcan). Otherwise, I've been here ever since. In the meantime, I've gotten married, lost a bunch of weight, gained it back, moved from Houston to Austin to out in the sticks, and gone all the way through grad school.
Moved to CA in 97, faced with little national TV coverage of Rockets games, can't access Chronicle from work net, so it was this or daily web searches.
Regarding visiting this site, the 2000 season brought me here. As for posting, Hakeem's possible (and ultimately eventual) departure from Houston drew me out of lurk mode. In hindsight, my first ever post was probably one of my best posts:
I think I found this place through a google search on the Rockets. I was sick and tired of not being able to find good info on my favorite NBA team. I looked around for a day or two without reading the BBS. Then one day I decided to check the BBS out and saw a thread on Olajuwon, and I decided to go ahead and post what I felt: Ah, back in the days when I didn't use paragraphs! Also, notice that "jabroni" shows up in my very first post! BTW - I just noticed something.... This is my 101st post since seeing this girl I have been seeing (started on the 9th of this month). Hmmm, maybe I need to get my priorities back in line!
