Unless you really like the appearance, there is no point in buying macbooks anymore since most of them come with a Core 2 Duo processor anyway. If you can find a macbook with their own processor, it is a good choice for reliability, style and general application.

If you are going down the PC route, HPs and Compaqs sell alot but we also see alot of returns as well. Not that they are bad, but tech support with HP is terrible as well and they really are middle of the road. The Compaq DV series looks badass (literal appearance).

We sell alot of Toshibas and I see a minimal amount of returns for those but I personally dislike their appearance.

As for warranty, most laptops will give you 1 year parts and labor which should put you in the clear. Some places offer accidental coverage to protect against drops which is useful because it is exploitable. If you choose to purchase extended warranty make sure it includes a battery replacement plan because that is going to be useful if you take your laptop on the go.

Um thats all I can think of. Good luck

That's ridiculous. I've worked there for 19 years and have never heard or seen this.

I feel bad about the few that have had bad luck. It happens to all computer companies. I've heard some real doozies over the years, from many different companies. I only speak from my own personal experience and offer what I consider to be a nice deal. If I thought that what I was offering wouldn't be for the better, I certainly wouldn't tell someone that they are making a mistake not to buy it in a forum, when they could blast me later.

Most of the time, the general public are satisfied with their purchase, because they don't want to admit that they made a mistake later. Humans do second guess themselves, but they rarely admit it to others. It's that thing called pride. I once succumbed to pride, but not anymore.

I don't work in sales, notebooks, nor consumer products. I never have.

I'm a developer that uses them and am currently typing this on an nc 6220 that has never given me a single problem. I purchased my (ex)wife a tc 4220 tablet that she loves (or at least as of 6 months ago) and I bought my step-daughter a nx 6120 that has been great. All at a good price and all with a 3 year warranty.

You can call the number I gave above anytime and they will tell you what is currently available.

I wish you the best of luck.

I've had an HP DV8200 for about a year now and haven't had any problems with it. I bought a Dell Inspiron 8200 4-5 years ago when it first came out and had both hardware and software problems with it within it's first year out of the box. I really like the HP and won't ever buy another Dell.

I like this paragraph because it's true in so many levels.

I have a Dell 700m ($750 new) for 1.5 years and the only problem I've had is the computer freezing and emitting a blue light of death. Probally has happened 6-7 times so far.

This guy trusts HP, but many don't trust him. ;)

My sister is currently looking for a laptop and has been unable to find one that comes with XP. It's like when Vista came out every new computer has it and I am not talking "Capable" I'm saying every one we've looked at in Radio Shack, Circuit City, even Wal-Mart comes with it now.

Yep, you're stuck with all the big makers. They're OEM partners with MS, and they started putting Vista on their machines the minute it came out. I just bought my wife a Dell and had to clean install XP. If you or your sister is a student, you can probably get an educational discount on a copy of XP for around $40.

Oh oops! Totally didn't notice there were replies here! Hope you've got a nice computer R0ckets03! Let me know if you're still interested in that coupon. I got a $10 one for hpshopping.com lying around some here I'm sure.

VecseySux, I used to work for Industry Standard Servers supply chain strategy. Now I work for consumer notebooks cost management...

Man it's pretty hard work to optimize configurations, operations and suppliers so that we can sell these boxes for $599... Commoditization is a b****. :(

What do I like best about working here? Most of my co-workers are kind, down-to-earth Texans. No-nonsense, conscientious people. They will not rush a product out the door that's buggy (that's why we're rarely first to market), and they will not fudge a solution just to feed market hype to the detriment of customer value (that's why we don't always carry the latest gizmos/features).

And even though all computers are made in China these days, even among all the contract manufacturers, HP always gets preferential treatment, since we treat our contract manufacturers right and don't cheat them or coerce every last penny out of them like Dell or Acer does.

And HP treats its own people right too. We don't get paid as well as the other big IT outfits out there, or even as well as Big Oil/drillers in Houston, but the atmosphere cultivates creativity and risk-taking and assuming responsbility.

I wax lyrical here. So I'll stop. HP computers' are not perfect, and they've got flaws just like everything out there, but hey it's a Houston product! :) Support the home team!

That's correct, starting Feb, you should not be able to find new computers shipping with XP pretty much anywhere...

Might need to break out those CDs you got with your last computer... Come on, Vista is bad, but not THAT bad, is it?

I love my Dell. It's fast, but sometimes it takes a little while to start up but I think thats my fault because I never really turn it off.
