Yes, good call on Fu Manchu, although I wouldn't consider them hardest. A suggestion of a band that I have made to Manny 1 meeelion times(go by one of their damn CD's already!!!) is Kyuss. Fu Manchu has a similar sound and Queens of the Stone Age includes a member(s) of Kyuss.
Manny, I've actually been meaning to recommend them to you. I would say they do sort've a grunge/punk thing, with great powerful vocals, and some cool darker lyrics. Ric is a music guy who's also a Toadies fan I believe, he might be able to provide some better info. They've only got two albums -- "Rubberneck" was the first, and then the one I mentioned, which didn't come out 'til like 6-7 years later (they also have an EP called "Pleather" that has a few of the "Rubberneck" songs). I would say you should get "Rubberneck" immediately. It contains all their big singles (3 I believe). If you're a fan of 90s alternative it's a must-have, and just a great rock record in general, which is why I like it.
I cant lsiten to the stuff I used to listen to in high school. I used to love slayer, pantera, and selpurtura. However the best current metal band is tool followed my metallica and megadeth.
I was just driving home listening to the Toadies - Hell above... - Good call - I have a feeling they are going to get back together again. Another couple of Dallas/Denton bands that are really hard/good Brutal Juice and Baboon.
The new Rob Zombie is pretty good. I'm surprised no one has brought up the pistols. It's not the grindcore you're referring to, but they rock. Anarchy in the Uk is still one of the great singles in rock history. per yr. inquiry, would have to go pantera. I'd prefer a karyoke ver. sometimes, though. Just riffs, please.
In no order except for #1 - The KINGS of Heavy Metal: 1. Metallica - (this is a no-brainer) Metallica drew up the blueprint for all of the "heavy" artists of today. Godsmack and Nikelback both ripped them off...... hell all of the new metal bands steal the **** out of Metallica riffs.... it makes me want to fuc*in' ralph! (Blackened, Master of Puppets, and Holier than Thou kick some serious ASS!!). 2. Deftones - Adrenaline - groundbreaking album in 1995 3. Anthrax - Scott Ian can thrash with the best of them 4. Pantera - Dimebag and Vinny.... nuff said 5. Megadeth - Mustaine can write songs period. Peace Sells, Hangar 18, Symphony of Destruction..... 6. Rage Against the Machine - (I really cant belive they were not mentioned). All I have to say is: FEEDOM!!!!!!!!!! 7. Tool - Aenima is a classic heavy album 8. Motorhead - Lemmy! 9. Black Sabbath - Ozzy! 10. Suicidal Tendencies (once again a surprise that they were not mentioned) Mike Muir and Rocky George ripped it up in their prime...... You Cant Bring Me Down!
Rashmon, This group is too young for that suggestion. BobFinn*, What do you have against Starland Vocal Band?
Freak, Okay, I will have to check them out. I just got my latest "batch", so it will be awhile but I'll put them on my list. Pimp, I got "Blues for the Red Sun" by Kyuss over 2 months ago. It was okay but I was a little disappointed on first listen. I need to listen to them again. However, the Queens of the Stone Age are another group that I have placed on my list like the Toadies.
Hmm....Gee I wonder what band R2K will name as the hardest?? Hmm...could it be.......... Iron Maiden!! no brainer... anything at all from them..tho for the hardest stuff, I heartily recommend the early stuff..Iron Maiden, Killers, # of the Beast... and in no particular order: Judas Priest I dont have to tell yall....anything between Point of Entry and when Rob left is great hard stuff! One of my classic must-haves is Screamin for Vengeance(Hellion/Electric Eye, Bloodstone, Fever)...British Steel (Grinder,Metal Gods) Metallica early Metallica of course..anything off of Kill Em All..Master of Puppets, and Ride The Lightning... Pantera just about anything from these guys also...they kick some serious as$ live!! Anthrax also go for the early stuff from Armed and Dangerous, Spreading The Disease and Among the Living.. Megadeth Dave Mustaine is hands down one of the most hardcore thrashing guitarist of the late 90's..IMO....they have kinda semi-sold out these days...but still harder than most. Fates Warning (this is starting to be a trend) go for the early stuff...The Spectre Within, Awaken the Guardian and No Exit are good places to get started with these guys... Armoured Saint they didnt stay around long, but kicked some serious butt while they were... Black Sabbath couldnt leave out the "Godfathers of Metal" some say Zep was responsible for Metal...I don't agree...they started out things in the right direction, but Sabbath did it the right way! detuning, hard repetitive riffs, thunderous rythym section...beautiful music to my young ears n the 70's and extremely honorable mention to : Motorhead, Slayer, Testament, WASP, SOD, Manowar, Saxon, Budgie, Fight/Halford...and I know Queensryche isn't really that hard these days...but I love em and the early stuff was pretty hard..oh...and 1 more....Axe...they get mentioned for one of my all-time favorite party songs (Rock N Roll Party in the Streets) There are some other guys that rocked reeeall hard...but these are my favorites.. Always good to see another music thread...keeps me from gettin too bored with the offseason.. and I could talk all day about music!...
I was going to mention them, but figured their more melodic tunes put them more in the category of RHCP even though they can rip. Gotta kill Captain Stupid!
Kyuss definitely has a different kind of sound, kind of an aquired taste. Maybe you should give the album a couple of listens or sample some of their other stuff to get a good feel for them. If you still don't like them, you probably won't like Queens of the Stone Age or Fu Manchu. BTW, Queens of the Stone Age has a new album coming out(might be already) called Songs for the Deaf. I've only heard one song, but I really like it and can't wait to see them at Stubb's next month.
That "Art of Rebellion" album rocks. Can't Stop Accept My Sacrifice Nobody Hears Tap Into The Power Monopoly On Sorrow We Call This Mutha Revenge I Wasn't Meant To Feel This/Asleep At The Wheel Gotta Kill Captain Stupid I'll Hate You Better Which Way To Free? It's Going Down Where's The Truth
The lead singer of the Toadies started a new band called "Burden Brothers". They have some music for sale on their website and they've been playing shows in Texas. Haven't heard them yet.
Wow, it seems you got kinda good taste in new-sounds. I totally agree on .....and you will know us by the trail of dead. I saw them also live in Zurich (Switzerland) and hung around with the fellas backstage. Unfortunately I was helldrunk and locked myself in the toilet and it must have looked like I am a drug misuser to them. Anyway, good taste. Helmet, damn they where really kicking. How about Eyehategod - do you know them? Man, they are heavy and totally sick. later, ray
I guess I really don't like hard rock...can't imagine popping it in on my way home from work after a long day (I must be getting old!) as hard as I go is Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam...somehow I don't think they fit the mold of the Judas Priests and Metallicas of the world!
