Battier doesn't need to work on his game, he needs to ingest huge quantities of HGH so he can grow another 3 or 4 inches. That way, we can have the same Battier specialness, in a 7 foot body.

    Are you with me?

    Hell yeah.

Much of what Battier will (may?) have to work on this summer will be dictated by how he'll be used by Adelman. For all we know, the guy is "good enough" for Adelman's purposes. If you're looking for the Rocket's version of Doug Christie, he's not it and won't be because his ball handling will never be as good as Christie's was. We'll see what he needs to be and then see if he can be that...

... barring trades of course. ;)

Yeah, Ole Christie had the ball on a string out there. He could dribble and blow kisses to his wife all at the same time.

I think Shane is overrated defensively. He is a great team defender but doesn't have the lateral quickness to be a shutdown defender. He is Rybo with a three point shot.

"running around screens and taking open mid range shots like rip?" are you kidding me with this?

Battier needs to learn how to make his teammates better. More specifically, he needs to learn to dribble penetrate and kick out to wide open shooters like Yao Ming and Chuck Hayes. If Battier can bring Yao's and Chuck's 3pt% above what Rafer's was this year, I will be quite pleased. :D :D

liek someone said earlier - aggressiveness. Shane is a surprisingly good post player and his fundamentals are solid. Unfortunately, hi personality means he's rarely going to go against the coach's game plan, even when he can hit the shot.

He should keep fit and play some pick up games. He should add to his practice wind sprints upto 30 yards at a sprint, 5 series of 20 each day. He should make sure that most of his assets are liquid/or easily moved, just incase he is traded. He should keep in regular touch with Morey .

He did a lot of it for Coach K at Duke, running around screens, back cuts, Battier is a good player who will adapt to whatever style he is asked to play.

I believe Adelman will utilize all of his skills - if he is still on the team.

I complained about him not being agressive enough all year long...

but hey, this one goes on JVG too, so we could see a big difference next season, not only Battier but the whole team might work/play differently

    Good questions, hotblooded.

I really hope we keep Battier.

As to the question, I think he needs to practice his rebounding and dribbling.

Don't expect him to raise his scoring significantly - maybe by a couple of points, but as long as he keeps doing the rest of the stuff he does so well, we should definitely keep him (as well as Hayes, but we need to get rid of Juwan and get a better PF).

he just needs to be more aggressive in looking for his shot.

At this point in his career and his role with the rockets...work on his 3 pt percentage and we'll be ok.

No, he's not agile enough to run around screens. Not at the NBA level. He's on the short list for most athletically challenged starting swingmen in the entire league.

You don't get better like that at age 29. You are what you are at that point. You can become a better free throw shooter like Karl Malone did. You can improve your jump shooting like Michael Jordan did. You can become a smarter passer, defender, or overall player like Hakeem and again Jordan did. But you're not gonna add stuff to your arsenal at near 30. You're not going to develop a handle or a pull up jumper or a postup game. You are what you are at that point and if you didn't add it when you were developing, it's likely not coming.

Battier is what he is. He's not Rip Hamilton.

We shouldn't be asking what Mr. Battier can do to improve his game.

IMO this is up to Mrs. Battier. She is the one who has to stop having sex with him. It's the only way to make him more aggressive.

I know I'd be pretty pissed if I went dry all summer.
