Remember DM also said that some teams try to go over board during FA and won't have the flexibility come the trade deadline. I actually feel okay about the roster we have now. I wouldn't mind DM staying pat and wait to see what other opportunity comes up :)

would love to get bosh for a hill/battier/jefferies + picks combo but bosh is clearly not interested. amar'e wouldn't be bad either but NOT for scola+battier+ariza... just not comfortable trading away that much heart for a player like him.

so... sign up miller, maybe scour around for an athletic swingman on the (relative) cheap, pray that ming stays healthy and hope hill, cbud, taylor, and patterson all step up. we're still as deep as anyone, imo.

and let's face it, if we don't make a move now we're set up like kings to make a big move come deadline time.

    To answer your question:

What do I expect to happen: Your guess is as good as mines. From what I gather from your posts, I think that I remain slightly more optimistic about this whole Bosh situation than you seem to be. However, I can definitely understand your lack of optimism concerning Bosh coming to Houston and my optimism has lowered quite a bit since the first Bosh to Houston rumors came out. Personally, I know that when the first Bosh to Houston rumors surfaced midway last season, I was very optimistic that Houston would be the front runners in nabbing him, mostly because I saw Houston as the best fit for Bosh's criteria of being the "man" and getting the real maximum contract that can only be acquired through a resign with his current team or a sign and trade. However, with the abundance of recent "done deal" reports of a superstar triumvirate forming in Miami or Bosh heading to Miami or James and Bosh heading to Chicago, my optimism has been dampened quite a bit. What keeps me optimistic that Houston has as good a chance as Miami or Chicago is my faith in Daryl Morey. Never in my lifetime as a fan of any sports franchise have I ever felt so confident in my team's management and their GM. His history speaks for itself. I know everybody makes mistakes, and Morey has yet to commit his first major blunder and the law of averages state that he will make one eventually, but I am very confident that he will not overpay for Bosh's services. We will not be giving up key pieces, that I am sure of.

What would I do/what should we do: SELL Houston hard. SELL the fact that he will be playing with great players, playing for a great GM and a hall of fame coach. SELL the fact that we meet all of his criteria. He will be "the man" in Houston. He will get the chance to take down the Lakers from the high perch and kick them in the teeth after their long fall down. If that doesn't jolt his competitive juices and if all that talk about being "the man" was nonsense, then I can totally understand why he would prefer going somewhere else other than Houston as reports seem to currently indicate. But, if he truly was a competitive player and a smart person (which he seems like he is) then the chances Houston will give him makes this team the PERFECT place for him. This is what makes him a hard read. I don't know if he really cares about being "the man" or making a legacy as one of the greatest PF's ever. That's why I see him wanting to team up with Wade and/or James a strong possibility. This would have been a much easier situation to get a read on if the Chris Bosh was of the mold of a Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. If that were the case, he would love the chance to go to a team that is talented and where he can be both that final piece to the puzzle and be the MAN at the same time. I am hoping that Chris Bosh does care about his legacy as somebody who was able to win a championship as "the man" because that would increase Houston's odds at getting him that much higher. As for the Yao situation, I agree. Obviously if he weren't injury prone, it wouldn't be unlikely to see all the marquee players wanting the chance to play with him, much how McGrady was when he wanted out of Orlando. However, much to every Rockets fan chagrin, this is not the case. Bosh has to take a leap of faith as all of us do as well that Yao will have fully recovered. This will be the hard sell. But, like I said, if I had to put my trust in anyone to sell Houston to Bosh, it would be Morey.

DM PLAN A: Attack the free agency, and try to get our players (Bosh, etc)

DM PLAN B: Since GSW is interested in Battier, trade him, for a package with Randolph, and then make a serious run at CP3, with multiple draft picks we have, HILL and contract fillers

    Can you imagine:

    YAO / BRAD
    RANDOLPH / PATTERSON
    ARIZA / BUDINGER
    MARTIN / TAYLOR
    CP3 / LOWRY

I believe that Randolph can play PF, because we have that dominant C (let´s hope yao comes injury free) and Randolph can shoot the mid jumper, can put the ball on the ground, and dunk on your face, he is a younger Bosh, he just needs to improve his back to the basket game, and he will be a true PF, not losing the mid range game, crucial to space the floor for yao

    What do you think DD???

I'd be more than happy if we could just retain our own players (Lowry/Scola) and sign Brad Miller.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Ariza/Taylor
    Battier/Budinger
    Scola/Hill/Patterson
    Yao/Miller/Hayes

That's enough talent/depth for 50+ wins and to get to the 2nd round at least as long as there's no major injuries to our main players.

Ideally we get a star player and make a serious championship run.

If not, I'm fine with seeing what we have for the first half of the season, and finding out whether Patterson or Hill are worthy of being lottery picks.

Maybe add a veteran big man, but unless the deal is right, not absolutely necessary.

BTW given the ridiculous contracts being handed out, a full MLE for Gortat doesn't seem that bad in hindsight.

It's better for the Rockets to do nothing than to overpay. By not drinking the kool aid, we're in a better position to make deadline deals. This is not a buyer's market.

    This.

You are preaching patience and this is exactly what I think we should proceed. My window to become league top dog is 3 years, though. There is no telling how good C-Bud, PP, Hill, Martin, Yao, Scola, Lowry, Brooks, etc... will be, playing together a full season or two. Also, as you said, we could be getting a top 5 pick from NY in 2011. That could be something in a trade for a guy like Melo.

I expect something. Either one of the pie in the sky or at least a minor trade to possibly get a more well rounded SF.

I think this is how it will go down:

    Plan A: Bosh

    Plan B: Amare

Plan C: Trade to get a star PF/C

Plan D: Keep the Knicks picks at all expenses and ****-block them in their FA hunt.

    Plan E: Sign Brad Miller

When its all said and done, I really hope we keep that Knicks pick (and the other swap thing). Hopefully they will strike out and save some cap for Syracuse alum Carmelo Anthony (who is a perfect match IMO). Giving us one more year of suck from the Knicks, aka a great lotto pick for us!

I expect we wont get anyone worth while. We will acquire some role players that wont make us any better. Possibly douchy Brad Miller.

If the rockets could get Al Jefferson at a descent price, I wouldnt hesitate in pulling the trigger. Would hate to see the Spurs get him as well.

The best move for the rockets to make would be to focus on two players:
    -Amare
    -Brad Miller

Amare is a definate upgrade at PF over an aging Scola and will put up better numbers. Not to mention the fact that he's an allstar, young, and explosive.

Brad Miller is a perfect backup at center, having already played for Ricks system. A whole lot better then Anderson.

I heard the rumor of the Rockets giving up Scola, Battier and Ariza and all the non sense of people thinking we should throw in AB instead and i think that is the craziest thing i've ever heard. We'd be stuiped to give up Ariza, he was coming into his own with the other weapons on the court and the relief of not having to be the leading scorer anymore. Scola and Battier plus the expiring contract of Jefferies would do just fine i'd think. That would allow us to keep the PG that would attract a big name free agent like Amare and we aren't giving up both of our defensive wings. Bud isn't ready to start in the NBA. The rockets have an abundance of Forwards but no legit backup 2 guard.

    Brooks- Lowry
    Martin-
    Ariza- Air Bud
    Amare- J. Hill
    Yao-Miller

Bosh is the best case scenerio. Realistically, we might have a chance at the B.Miller, C.Boozer types. TBH, I'd be ok with that. I'd even be OK with us standing pat and wait to see what happens at the trade deadline.

Totally agree with you, we have a talented team as is, just need that back up center position solidified. Go after CP3 or Melo at the trade deadline if their situations are looking bleak.

I completely disagree. I think one way or the other, Morey is going to see to it that the Rockets come out of this offseason with a different and upgraded team. I think he's eager to make the big move and has the ability and assets to make it happen, even if it doesn't turn out to be in a way that everyone's currently focused on, such as signing Chris Bosh. I can't explain why I think this, exactly -- but it has something to do with the fact that last season was basically lost, from a competing-for-a-championship standpoint. I think Morey wants to have a championship-caliber team in place from the opening tip, and he won't wait until the trade deadline.
