Okay, my original (double, whoops) post was advocating the song "Black Sabbath" (from their first album) But in addition, I can't believe nobody is standing up for "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath" (from album of that title I believe) That song has, in the second phase of its bridge, the most gutteral and horrifyingly wondrous guitar churn that I have ever heard.
Wow, I had no idea there was so much detail in mimicking the guitar riff of Iron Man...I apologize to any Sabbath fans I might have insulted.
Very tough thing to ask of me..I love Sabbath as much as Maiden. (singers other than Ozz are notated) NIB War Pigs Sweet Leaf Symptom of the Universe Fairies Wear Boots Electric Funeral Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Turn Up The Night (RJD) Sabbra Cadabra Trashed (Ian Gillian) Digital b**** (Gillian) Sign of the Southern Cross (RJD) Neon Knights (RJD) Stonehenge (Gillian) Children of the Sea (RJD) Heaven and Hell (RJD) Headless Cross (Martin) there are a few more on the later albums (after Headless Cross) but for the most part my favorites are from before they all split..
I found my greatest hits album when I got home (it is called "We Sold Our Soul to Rock 'N' Roll") and I want to add "Changes" "Children of the Grave" to my other choices
Paranoid Of course, I really liked it best when Ozzy did it solo. I don't recall which guitarist did it best. It was either Jake E. Lee or Brad Gillis.
Has their ever been a heavier song than "Supernaut?" Amazing what Tony Iommi, his three working fingers, and .008-gauge strings can do in comparison with these kids (older than me, but still) with their 7-string guitars, 96-tracks of overdubs, and digital Pro Tools. Bow down ...
That's one of the greatest songs ever. My favs: The Wizard Supernaut Children of the Grave Electric Funeral Snow Blind NIB Changes Planet Caravan I could go on and on. Hell, Sabbath rocks. Period.
Good stuff. Upon further reflection (after busting out my Sabbath albums over the weekend), my favs are Supernaut, Children of the Grave, Symptom of the Universe and The Wizard. I haven't listened to Sabbath in years, but it sure was fun to hear 'em again.
