Just finished Severance by Ling Ma. Excellent novel, reminiscent of Kazuo Ishiguro. Dark and humorous. Sci fi in setting only. Best I've read in the past year.

In the middle of Demon Copperhead by the always excellent Barbara Kingsolver. Story of boy dealing with poverty, drugs, homelessness, etc in Appalachia. Kind of a retelling of David Copperfield. Not as bleak as it sounds!

I did. My wife suggested Mickey instead, but I dismissed that immediately.

Dreams of El Dorado was great, just finished it, thanks for the rec.

Got the Texas Monthly 50th Anniversary Issue in the mail the other day, it's a then vs now look that touches just about everything: politics/culture/food/business/sports/arts/etc....

I'd recommend picking up a copy, not sure how much of it is available online but I know you can purchase individual issues on their website.

    There are spiders?

    ...

Reminds me of A Deepness in the Sky, but it's not on that level.

I’ve been laid up and read this over the weekend. Fantastic and fascinating book. Going to read the series. Thank you, sir.

Didn't realize there was going to be a third book or that it is now available on Kindle..... I enjoyed the first book more than the second but it was still good. Definitely going to read the third book.

Eithwr/Or by Elif Batuman. The book uses the same title as the book by Kierkegaard.

The first book The Idiot took its name from the Dostoevsky novel.

I've enjoyed both of her books, but I like the second Either/Or even more.
