Fatman. I'm tellin' you. Child Of God. You will never forget that book. If you want a taste of the lighter side of McCarthy, read All The Pretty Horses. One of the most talented writers to ever live. I definitely need more of his stuff.
Just finishing Cadillac Jack by Larry McMurtry. Kind of a wierd book for McMurtry and not up there with his very best but even weird average McMurtry is still a damn good read. Actually, it was the third of three books I checked out from the library (due 8-28-06, I should just make it). One of the other two were 'Map of Bones' by James Rollins, a Davinci Code style mystery (maybe better than) that is quite fascinating. My only gripe is way too many pages of 'shoot-m-up' action as opposed to the excellent research on the subject matter centered around the 'Seven Wonders of the World', a secret order, and an amazing discovery linking it all together. And lastly, 'Empire of Ashes' by Nicholas Nicastro, a fictional history of Alexander the Great and probably the best of the three.
Just finished: Very very close to putting it down a few times. Pretty terrible book. About to start: Joe R. Landsdale is a very underrated mystery author. With him and Rick Riordan, Texas is well-represented in the genre. They're both highly recommended.
World War Z by Max Brooks An indirect follow-up to his Zombie Survival Guide, but with a greater emphasis on satire. Brilliant stuff, and entertaining to boot.
Read this about 3 weeks ago. I HATE reading for the most part but I flew through this in less than 24 hours (about 200 pages). It's insightful, informative, and could change the way you look at your money. It did for me.
Michael Leahy's book about Michael Jordan's last comeback "When Nothing Else Matters" about half way through. Makes you lok at Jordan in a whole new light. good read for any bball fan.
That book is good for the 'rah rah' stuff and gets you motivated. But don't look to it for real financial information. Other than the fact that Rich Dad is likely made up there are some other mistakes in there and no real 'how tos'. Only that real estate and investing in general is a good thing. Like you I liked the book but after a while you realize there's not much meat to it.
I just finished Elmore Leonard's Mr. Paradise on the flight out here to Oakland. Now I'm about halfway through Flags of Our Fathers. A really chilling book.
****************SPOILERS********************* do not read, blah blah blah ****************SPOILERS********************* yes yes, I know, I'm not vesceysux, but the ending still infuriated me to an extent lol. and this'll be my lone serious reply for a bit. it was kind of a fitting king ending, for the entire cycle to start all over again and roland to just be stuck in a continous loop. i read the darktower.net forums like crazy after the book (as i always try to do after most books lol), and i can't recall it off the top of my head but if roland had done something different towards the end to deserve the "loop" he's stuck in. edit: ok, i looked at thedarktower.net forum's again since i'm cool and sources in the pentagon believe that Roland never learned from his past mistakes , so he gets the horn and goes on his journey again until he learns to not repeat them anymore (like letting most/all of those that were close to him die just for the sake of getting to the top of the tower) overall, damn good series, wasn't a big stephen king fan heading into it, but a friend gave me book 1 and I never looked back until the end or well the "lack" of an end lol.
