Just finished: and am in the process of reading: Finally got a library card. It's nice not spending $10 on a book.
Just finished- Great, but dark, "surf noir" novel. It had very good descriptions of what it is like learning to surf and what it's like once you're really surfing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one reading some historical biography or some fun fiction novel. Made me feel like a stiff "The Dealmaker's Guide to Commercial Real Estate" by Ray Alcorn.
That sounds cool. I will have to check it out. due to work, and the like I had to take about 6 months off from surfing. When I went back out to surf again, I was amazed at how rusty I was. It was almost like I was starting over from scratch again. I was pretty bummed.
"Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield-I am really enjoying it. Does anyone know the popular author- not sure of name- something like "Corman McCormick"? I recall this writer being mentioed in previous threads on books and cannot find the name. I enjoy Michael Conelly, John Sandford, Jeffrey Deaver, and Randy Wayne White.
I know the feeling. Anyway, definitely worth a read. It's out of print, but you can get used copies on Amazon.
Just finished Under the Banner of Heaven. Very fascinating read dealing with Mormon Fundamentalists and the LDS. It was told in a very non-judgmental way and I learned a lot about the history of a religion that is so unique alone by the fact that we're getting to witness the birth of a religion in the modern era. Highly recommended. About a quarter of the way through this for the first time:
reading "Deviant" right now. it's about the life of Ed Gein, the guy the movies Psycho and the character Leatherhead were based on. talk about one messed up individual.
There's an author named Cormac McCarthy. And the book I am reading right now is..........by Cormac McCarthy. Blood Meridian. Awesome book. After that I think I'll read "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien and "A Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway. And then I will read "All the Kings Men" by Warren and then some more McCarthy.
