yeah, as long as you can read past my notes in the margins! Buck -- it's a Jesus freak book. Bell is a favorite of mine....in that his theology matches mine VERY closely. in my signature is a video he put together, if you're interested.
Are you talking about Eragon? Because I heard that not only is it very much influenced by LOTR, but the plot has striking similarities to the original Star Wars movie. Doesn't make it bad, but just wanted to throw it out there.
As long as they're not love notes to your wife! Yeah, I'm still on the same book. With baseball, PS2, Swirve and what not, I haven't picked it up too much lately. There are a lot of books I have on the shelf to read, so I anticipate finishing this one by week's end.
Just finished: It was ok. It is a detective novel set in circa 1960 Japan. The lead detective is more lucky than smart. The attraction for me was the exposition of Japanese culture. Just started:
I'm reading The Sixth Man:The Sixth Man: A Season Inside the NBA Playground by ESPN The Magazine Columnist Chris Palmer. Clicky It said it was about McGrady, Damon Jones, Luol Deng, Elton Brand, and Rip Hamilton, and since I like all of those players (Rip not much), I thought I'd give it a read. It's supposed to be about what it's like being an NBA player. It's really more about what it's like being an NBA reporter. Still, it offers some cool insights into some of the player relations. The really interesting dynamic that you learn about is the one between lower-paid journeymen (DJones) and superstars like Shaq. It's almost as if Shaq wants to flaunt his wealth and popularity over Jones all the time.
No doubt, makes me want to travel again, like today. Max, interesting. Liked the video. Might pick that up when I'm in the mood for something a little spiritually deeper than my average fare.
I liked it despite the similarities, which are definately more than present. I'm kind of interested to see how they do the emovie, as a lot of the dialogue is unspoken.
Anyone who wants to read something very LOTRish should check out the Iron Tower Trilogy by Dennis L. McKeirnan, because the similarities are striking (including the little hero). I think it is also available as an omnibus edition just called the Iron Tower.
At present I'm reading some escapist fiction I consumed 20 years ago by Robert Ludlum - the Holcroft Covenant and the Aquitaine Progression... also getting ready to reread another - Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter
