A House for Mr. Biswas by V.S. Naipaul. It's a tough read and the characters are really irritating. Still, the author won a Nobel Prize so I figure there must be some kind of enlightenment to gained from finishing the book.
subtomic, it is tough to get through A House for Mr. Biswas. You could try A Bend in the River, too. I haven't run across any complaints about that one.
Weird world - my edition of Mr. Biswas also includes A Bend in the River. But I think I'm going to read something other than Naipaul after this.
I disagree, but thats what this forum is all about, different views. Did you read the book or just watch the movie? If you havent done so read the book and the follow ups, there excellent reading but keep in mind they are fictional, and they are based upon certain passages of the Bible and 2 mens perception of what "could" happen. There are many debates on the Rapture and both make very good points and I guess it comes down to your own personal understanding. I believe the Rapture will occur and that if you are Born Again {See ACTS 2:38} and are living right you will see him and be called up to to be with him. Didnt mean to get so deep, so I will stop here, but do yourself a favor and read the series, if nothing else it`s an excellent read... Peace
Yep. I read the hobbit and fellowship of the ring after the first movie came out. I don't think I enjoyed "fellowship" as much as I would have if I didn't see the movie first.
Corwin kicks ass. I think that is one of the first fantasy series I read. Kinda sucks when his brother burns his eyeballs out, but...
The best book I've read recently is ATONEMENT by Ian McEwan. Great characters, great writing, and an incredible description of the British retreat from France in WWII. Right now I'm reading FEVER PITCH by Nick Hornby, and I think it stinks, mainly because it's about soccer. I hate it when a writer thinks he's funny, and you can tell, and he keeps trying to be funny.
I've been reading almost everything from Michael Connelly. Detective-murder-thriller type stuff - good read Is anyone else waiting on the next Stephen King Gunslinger novel?
Right now I'm reading the Lord of the Rings series, and I'm almost through the Fellowship. Before that, I read the first four books of the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel.
True, true. Those are excellent. But I think he was just trying to get a pay check when he wrote Fever Pitch. Blech. It's technically non-fiction, and actually non-fun.
Cool, I'm a detective-murder-thriller type fan! I've finished all of John Sandford and James Patterson, plus a few others. Working on Richard North Patterson now. I'll have to check out Connelly...thanks!
That book rules. Dune, too. I'm currently reading "Bring Me The Head of Prince Charming" by Roger Zelazny, best known for the Chronicles oF Amber series. (VERY VERY Good I might add)
Yeah, I agree that if you are baptized and living your life for God then you will as you said "see him" and be called up with him. But I believe that people who haven't been baptized will be there, like the man on the cross beside Jesus whom Jesus told "you will be with me in heaven." But hey, i guess the thing is it doesn't really matter how he comes to get his followers - because there are so many things that we don't know about him, why get caught up on the details that we can never fully understand until we are in heaven. Alright, i better stop there... i have read a bit of one of the books...but nothin major...but i did see the movie.
Isn't that a book about DeanBCurtis Seriously though I have been in re-reading mode lately. I just finished The Natural and have started 1984. I may delve into the LOR books next if I feel like I can devote enough time to it. CK
