I always seem to have several books going at once. One I've been reading, and have misplaced, which is driving me nuts, is Sixty Days and Counting, the third in a trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, about abrupt climate change and it's impact, seen through the eyes of some very interesting characters in the nation's capitol that end up being involved in some radical attempts to reverse the almost complete halt of the Gulf Stream and the near certainty of another Ice Age. The premise is based on an actual event from 11,000 years ago, the Younger Dryas, when there was an abrupt climate change that produced the last Ice Age in three years. The first novel of the series is Forty Signs of Rain. If you like your SF mixed with some excellent hard science, up to the minute politics, good characterizations, and fine writing, this should be up your alley.

Actually, next is his book "Contemplation in a World of Action" (or something like that). I checked it out the other day and it's sitting on my bedside table. Oh, and I finished Book 3 of A Series of Unfortunate Events last night with my older son. Great books.

I just finished reading your response and it wasn't very riveting. I'm kind of in a lull at the moment. I read a bunch of spiritual stuff for many months and now I'm ready to read something that will keep me on the edge of the seat. Thriller/Sci Fi stuff. I'll read back through everyone's responses and see if anything sounds good.
i'm reading this psychadelic political yarn called of owls and women by a guy named richard retro. it's a hoot.
