Just a rhetorical question, right? You already know the answer, right?

There is a hard core VG group that is about 15% of this board that will NEVER under any circumstances accept what Adelman accomplishes as superior coaching. NEVER. It'll all be luck or circumstances.

5 months before pre-season, I can give you their spin...

    * Van Gundy would have won 60+ games too if Yao hadn't gotten injured (ignoring the '06-'07 record w/o Yao was better than with).

    * It's only because Bonzi knew it was his last chance at getting a bigger contract. If Bonzi would have showed up in shape for VG like he did Adelman, they'd have beaten the Jazz and gone to the WC Finals (ignoring Wells doesn't respond well to "my way or the highway" coaching).

    * Well of course Adelman did better...but it's only because Battier finally started to shoot the ball. If he'd have taken those shots under VG, we'd have gone to the Finals (ignoring the fact that an Adelman team will likely provide more shooting comfort to the players since they'll be taking more shots).

    * Well...if VG would have had (insert name of draftee or FA that VG probably wouldn't have played) the record would be the same or better than Adelmans (ignoring the VG obsession with predictable consistency).

There are probably about 2 or 3 more...the responses are going to be so predictable you'll want to puke.

I don't think Adelman is a lateral move at all. If I were to rate his offense I would give it a 5 out of 5 with a 4 for his defense. JVG would be 3 for offense and 5 for defense. So 2 steps forward and only 1 step back... that makes for progress overall! :D (I would say Popovich and Sloan would be both 4 for O and 5 for D for reference on my hack coaching rater system)
