Been driving a lot in the last week: Robert Plant - Mighty Rearranger A couple of weak songs, like the opener but enough killers to make it worth the cost. "Shine It All around" and the title cut are as good as it gets. A- Paul Thorn - Ain't Love Strange (2000) This guy is a great lyricist, really funny and has a unique style sort of like John Hiatt. I will be getting his newer stuff ASAP. B+ The Refreshments - Fizzy Fuzzy and The Bottle and Fresh Horses Robert Clyne is another great songwriter but I haven't listend to his new band the Peacemakers yet . Good jangly American rock but maybe a bit repetitous per song and same sounding songs per CD. C+ Beck - Guero I'm old so I can't say I really heard Beck till you guys loved it. But I liked it, eclectic...pleasent, inventive. B Kasabian - got to listen to a band with a Manson girl for a name. Good modern Beatlesque sound. B- I know you guys aren't much on Soul and blues but.. Solomon Burke - I Need More Love B Tad Robinson - Did you Ever Wonder C Electric Flag - Best Of (1968?) B+ The Yayhoos - Fear Not The Obvious A revival of the drunken rebel rock of The Georgia Satellites. C- Steve Earle - Transendental Blues (2000) A Los StraightJackets - The Velvet Touch Novelty surf music, fun for about 3 songs. C-

I bought this with high expectations also but was somewhat disappointed. It has some sublime moments along with some cacophonous meanderings. My 19 year old son loved it, so I gave it to him.
OK, will do - I'm only getting it and the other because I heard they were influenced by Floyd. I am thinking that "De-Loused in the Comatorium" maybe even more Floydian than "Francis".
Operation Ivy - I Wanna Be Sedated Operation Ivy - Chasing the Night Less than Jake - Where the Hell Is Mike Sinkovich Common Rider - Classics of Love (Singer of Operation Ivy new band. They are broken up now but they put out 2 full lengths and they're good. If you are interested Click on "Sound Clips" because they have a couple of free MP3s there.) J-Church - Fascist Radio Jawbreaker - Ashtray Monument Pinhead Gunpowder - MPLS Song ( If you like GreenDay, check this band out. Billie Joe sings in it too. It's a part time band and if they tour it's a small one and sometimes under a different name. Click on "Sound Clips" for list of free MP3s if you are interested.) The Judys - All the Pretty Girls Blatz - Learning How to Smile Rancid - Journey to the End and a lot more of the same bands just different songs.
Interesting, might need to check out some of their stuff, I am really getting into Pink Floyd, cant stop listening to them.
A friend was telling me about Muse and he let me burn their album, Absolution. I guess I'll be listening to that tonight.
I've been listening to the following stuff today while I've been trying to get some work done. Suffice to say, I've been too busy nodding my head with the beat and singin' along to actually get much work done. From earlier today up to right now in order: 311 - Grassroots 311 - Music (Both of these are old school albums by them which aren't as good as all their stuff they've released since their self-titled CD, but I love all their stuff, so I went back to these two.) Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd - The Wall (Only disc 1) Pearl Jam - Ten Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy Led Zeppelin - In Through the Out Door Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IIII
For coma and anyone else who is interested: I have listened all the way through to the Mars Volta albums in "De-Loused in the Comatorium" and "Francis the Mute". They are, how can I put it, out there. But I mean that in a good way but you are going to have to have some patience to really appreciate them. "Francis the Mute" has some of the best guitar playing I have heard on not only a recent album but on any album. I think the comparisons are made to Floyd because they do a lot of experimental stuff - but really starting with "Meddle", Floyd sorta abandoned experimental stuff in their albums. That was mainly done from "A Saucerful of Secrets" to "Atom Heart Mother". The only thing that I don't like about The Mars Volta is the lead singer's voice. I consider myself a fan of Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Flaming Lips, so I know what it is like to listen to someone who is a little off-kilter or off-key sing. But this guy for The Mars Volta is trying to be the second coming of Zack De La Rocha (sp?) but with a high-pitched nasal whine. They also remind me a lot of these "post-rock" bands like Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Explosions in the Sky, and Mogwai in that they play really loud and then get really soft. Of course, with the exception of Sigur Ros, those bands really don't have songs with lyrics in them. But that style of music is who the Mars Volta remind me of the most. And I like that style - I just wish dude's voice was a little better. Oh well - still a worthy purchase in my mind, especially "Francis the Mute" mainly because of the kickass guitar parts.
Speaking of Smashing Pumpkins Manny, was wondering if you can tell me anything about Queen's- Queen II album? Heard that it is different and sorta sounds like the Smashing Pumpkins, and read on Allmusic that it is one of Billy Corgans favorite albums, which might be the reason it sorta sounds like them.
Flyer, Don't own it...yet. Someone who is more of a diehard Queen fan than myself like No Worries, TheFreak, KellyDwyer, Batman Jones, or david_rocket could probably tell you for sure.
