Hey, Smeg.... I would be interested to know your opinion of the Decemberists after you have listened to them a few times. I have had their cd in my hand at the record store a couple times but ultimately opted for something else.
Yea, right - it will be hard for your AC/DC albums to beat all of my stuff as they would VASTLY outnumber them. I have so much confidence in this that I would probably just let my Bee Gees collection take care of Angus & Friends.
The remastered? Dang, I still haven't heard that. When you think you are ready, get yourself copies of "Small Talk" and "There's a Riot Goin' On", preferably on vinyl.
I don't think it is remastered as I had to buy it through the Amazon Marketplace feature (it was out of print). I should have gotten the double CD, "The Essential Sly and the Family Stone", which essentially replaced Anthology (it is only a single disc). I've been on a funk/soul kick of late so having something by Sly, even if it is only a greatest hits compilation CD, is essential. Hell, he has been cited by Miles Davis as an influence on his fusion stuff so I KNEW I had to get stuff by him. I'll have to keep your suggestions in mind if I decide to get individual albums by Sly (probably will happen eventually).
This thread just inspired a downloading spree. I may or may not have just gotten 100 songs or more. Most of them are from old cds that I used to listen to all the time.
mars volta - frances the mute - seeing them live last week made me like the album even more than i already did. jorge ben and gilberto gil - gil y jorge - chock full of 12 minute acoustic based jams from two of tropicallia's best. siouxsie and the banshees - juju prince - sign o' the times (prince was robbed in the solo tourney)
guess they wouldn't like Ghost of Tom Joad which for me Devils & Dust is very similar too, as much as I love the Rising, Joad still wins, so i suspect with a few more listens Devil and Dust will continue to grow on me, certainly a few more rootsy/folky faster tracks and love Bruce and his fallceto....
had the 5 new cds in a playlist on my ipod playing all weekend, yesterday i started listening to the albums individually, the Decemberists is almost my favourite, his voice is soooo familiar, love the overal sound and rhythm, very smooth and full sound, if you like the single '16 military wives' then you will love the album, definitely get it you won't be disappointed it very very very good
Today at office job I've listened to the following: U2-How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb O.A.R.-Risen The Vines-Highly Evolved Pearl Jam-Live from Vegas Dave Matthews Band-Live from Chicago
listening to Queen II right now, should probably start studying for the final i have tommorow though...
