OAR is really good. I personally didn't care for "In Between Then and Now", but the rest of their stuff is great, and most folks really liked that album. I've been a fan for about four years now -- they put on a great live show. Check out "Any Time Now" -- it's a live show they released to CD -> kind of like their "Live at Red Rocks". OAR was in town tonight, and a friend of mine was going to play with them, but I didn't have the time to go RM95 -> glad to see there are other John Butler Trio fans here. I was lucky enough to catch him when he was in town last year, and WOW, he is just an amazing musician. Kind of reminds me a bit of Ben Harper, but I actually like John Butler better. Anyone else pick up the new Mike Jones? Want to see other folks' thoughts on it.
I'm listening to the wacky stuff at: http://www.live365.com/stations/312197 And also: Old 97s - Wreck Your Life Kris Delmhorst - Five Stories Caitlin Cary - I'm Staying Out Albert King - Funky London Radney Foster - Another Way To Go
Besides DSOTM, also listening to: "In Through the Out Door" - Led Zeppelin "Push the Button" - Chemical Brothers "Disintegration" - The Cure
"Tu Bailar" - Baby Ranks "Mujeres" - O.G. Black y Master Joe "Verme" - Baby Ranks y Notch "Solo Una Noche" - Zion "Una Salida" - Baby Ranks "Bad Mothaf%^$s From P.R." - Notch y Voltio
Thata way. What's your favorite track off the CD? I think I'll have to be unoriginal and go with "In the Evening."
Wow, I had no idea that was out. The reviews at Amazon aren't good to say the least. I definitely wanna check it out still, though. I like most all Houston rappers. I really can't wait until Slim Thug, da BO$$ 'a da South, releases his CD.
yea those are great bands, Peter case from the Plimsouls and the nerves is playing tomorrow (Fri) night at Rudyards...gotta check it out!... The exploding hearts recorded one full length album and a few 7 inches... their on dirtnap records...follow the link and scroll down... http://www.dirtnaprecs.com/dirtnaprecs.html
Sammy Yaffa was playing bass for the dolls at SXSW! Yea, Hanoi Rocks is, in my opinion one of the most underrated bands...ever...throw in D Generation too...
Yeah, "Who is Mike Jones?" is finally out. It's not GREAT, there's a few tracks that are on previous albums, but it's worth a few listens. It grows on you, and a few tracks are really good. I especially like "5 Years from Now". It's the type of album that's fun to bump in the car, but that's about it. You don't put it on at home while just kickin' it, and the Houston rap scene has had better albums than this. It's nothing special, but it's worth a few listens. I got it through the new Napster service (which I love, btw) about a week ago, and so I've had the opportunity to hear it a bit more than most people so far -- it's not great, but it's worth listening to a few times. I give it 3.25 stars.
That's good to know. I'll say that the best rappers in Houston are: Slim Thug Lil' Flip Paul Wall & Chamillionaire The Geto Boys I feel like I'm leaving someone off.... Out of all those guys, I have more of Flip than anyone, but I love all of Slim Thugga's stuff. I can't wait until he releases more.
"In the Evening" - really the last great Zep rocker, IMO and a song in my all-time top 5 along with "No Quarter", "Tea for One", "Achilles Last Stand", and probably "Black Dog" although there are several off Led Zeppelin II that challenge for that 5th spot.
I never hear "Tea for One" mentioned, that's different. When I'm in the mood for bluesy Zeppelin myself, I like to go with "You Shook Me" or, of course, "Since I've Been Loving You." Top 5 for them is impossible for me. Possibly..... "Out On the Tiles" "Dazes and Confused" "Black Dog" "Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid" and "Rock and Roll."
rockets-#1 - those are all great picks -- I'm especially a fan of Paul Wall, and I've always liked Fat Pat (RIP). Big Moe's another favorite of mine. I'm not a huge Flip fan, but he's good, and I Lil' Keke is usually good.
To me, Page's playing on "Tea for One" is otherworldly. I am going to have to listen to that song when I get home today.
Added all 6 Beastie Boys CDs to my car CD changer. Also listening to: Blue - Joni Mitchell Operation Ivy (Energy) - Operation Ivy Blood on the Tracks - Bob Dylan
i have all three, but I love "Through the Darkness" the best...all of them are great! Too bad those guys only sold about 30,000 records total. They tried hard. On the NO LUNCH record, they hired rick ocasek(cars) to produce, and kept putting some old songs on each new record. I guess you can't expect much from the majority of the American music public, when you see a band like Switchfoot at #1 or whatever... Not to offend anyone, but this is the same board where someone was arguing that Green Day was bigger than THE CLASH? I forgot who it was with...but o well whatever floats your boat i guess...
That mighta been me. That is, if you mean someone said "Green Day is the best Punk band ever." I'm not disputing that the Clash were bigger, possibly more influential (and, I say possibly because a lot of bands out there today are influenced by GD, and you better believe the American Idiot CD is gonna influence a helluva lot of people). I simply think Green Day is the best. No, they aren't HARDCORE Punk, and they are sometimes mentioned as Rock/Pop. I believe they are Punk, and I believe every last one of their 127 songs is great.
