funny question-im on the south by southwest listening committe and i have to listen to like 100 submissions a week. god, its so awful! so many crappy singer-songwriters, generic blues rock and jam bands. right now we are in the phase of weeding out all the complete crap and im knee deep in it. there is some good stuff comming in, but its like finding a needle in a haystack. here is my leisure listening though- H.I.M.-many in high places are not well - tortoise style dub and afrobeat. neil young-greendale-his best album in 25 years-neil is pissed and focused. Soon, actually. I just got it sent to me via e-mail by the couple we met out there, so I'll have it uploaded ASAP. It's the coolest wallpaper ever, though.
I'm now listening to a cd I picked up last night after watching them last night: Flickerstick-Causing a Catastrophe: Live They were part of a badass show with Zac Maloy and Vallejo last night.
Glad that you like it. I think your appreciation would rise even higher if you saw some of the videos to the songs, especially "Bat Out of Hell" as Meat runs up and down the stage, nearly passing out only to rise up again! I remember the first time I saw the video to "Bat Out of Hell", I sat there, thinking to myself, "What in the hell is that fat guy doing?" Now that I think about it, it's too bad that Chris Farley wasn't on SNL back then because he could have done a great parody of that. I changed out the CDs in my car this morning and now have the following: "Kid A" - Radiohead "I Care Because You Do" - Aphex Twin "Parachutes" - Coldplay "Sea Change" - Beck
John Mayer's new one Seal IV Jaco Pastorius - self-titled Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angelas Toad the Wet Sprocket - Coil Also, been searching the iMusic site for more new stuff...mmmm...downloading.
we talked about that over lunch a couple of weeks back...what do you think so far?? i still need to buy Seal's new one...
I'm still listening to the rough mixes for Carl Hayn & the Holdouts' 4th CD...should be finished by the end of the year and available on the internet and at Cactus in January.
Thanks for the invite guys. I really like Mayer's stuff, but sometimes, his lyrics are a little too cheesy for me. I'll still sing along though.
oh..and by the way...we were gonna invite you, but jeff said you were way too conservative. i was all like, "that's not cool, jeff." but he insisted he could never eat lunch with some legalistic, button-downed, suburban-living, SUV-driving right-winger like you. so he went to lunch with me instead. sorry.
Yeah, I agree. The end of Something's Missing cracks me up, though. "Money, check! Guitar, check!" etc.
I couldn't go anyway. I was doing my duty as a voting citizen and researching the fiscal responsibility of voting for or against light rail. I am GOBSMACKED that you and Jeff didn't do the same. GOBSMACKED and hungry.
Heres how my playlist goes for the long day at work" Outkast-Love/below and Aquemeni Mars Volta-The new Album Meshugga- New album Obie Trice- Cheers
Carter USM - 30 Something Just curious does anyone else here know of them? (Carter) They're a band out of London, I think. They never really made it big here but were pretty huge in England. I have no idea if they are still around or not. They came here and played at The Abyss (or was it The Vatican then?) There was only like 10 people there but it was cool cause Carter gave me a free shirt and some beer. I was 16 or 17 at the time.
RM95 -- Yeah...I can understand your frustration with me. But ultimately, Jeff and I are secretly working for Jesse Jackson's sinister schemes here in the Houston area. Jeff and I thought about looking into the whole money analysis thingamajob...but numbers make me queasy, and i decided i'd rather just enjoy my sandwich. We finished our lunch meeting with a brief reading from Marx, and I was back in my office lobbying for liberal trial lawyers by 2:00. so it all worked out in the end. oh...and as for mayer...i KNEW that was the line you'd be talking about! but on the whole, i freaking love that album...i love that song up to that point.
Yeah, I'll be playing that one during my jaunt from Austin to The Woodlands to Tyler tonight. What a fun drive.
A friend of mine used to "date" Dominic Weir, the lead singer from Flickerstick back around/before the time they were on VH1's Battle of the Bands. He's a prick from what I hear.
