I know how difficult it will be to improve on current roster, but my feeling is that Morey and Co. will try everything b/c they know what's on the horizon - another superteam in LA.
Fourth guard is definitely a need... we saw them go after Jameer Nelson and a few other vets at times last year, just couldn't come to terms. It's also possible they could utilize more small ball with Gordon or Harden at the 3 -- they did it a lot in the WCF to close games, and now with Ariza gone, perhaps there's even more of a window to do that.
First of all, rockets signing CP to near max for a reason. The window to win it all is within the next 3 years or less. Why we wont bring back Ariza? Not cuz the owner is cheap but Morey is looking to improve our roster. CC will be matched and we will use ryno to net us another player that is starter material. If we are not then why bother to mortagage the future with CP on a 4 yrs contract. The window is now
I think Tillman actually was pretty transparent about this after the playoffs ended when he said "re-signing CP3 is priority, and we'll try with other resignings"..... or something like that. I took that as I'm an owner who wants to lock up the stars, but the supporting pieces are going to have to make sense financially from a value perspective. I believe this offseason at least, he's not going to go crazy in luxury tax hell, and might even instruct Morey to let Capela walk if he's not able to get him well under the max salary slot. I can see them using part of the mid-level to resign LRMM and leaving the rest for a signing later in the season for a vet that shakes loose after the deadline. If I'm Morey, I'm focused on what kind of young talent I can find that can earn minutes in the rotation, looking for vets who will sign for the minimum to re-brand themselves around the league, and scouting Euroleague players hard. Long story short.. I am NOT expecting major trades to go down to bring in another big piece. Next summer looks like a much better time for the team to really go after that next piece. This team they are bringing back minus Ariza will be the same team Tillman sees as a 65 win team that should have beaten the Warriors. That's probably good enough for a new owner who probably needs a few years to get used to trusting the business side of the Rockets.
exactly this.... if we weren't gonna keep capela then you better believe he would have been packaged with Ryan and off the books to make room for another player......
It will be the exact same West of last year. Doncic and Ayton will not turn their squads into playoff teams. The Nuggets most likely will make the playoffs but they were in it until the final game of the regular season this year. A basket or stop here and their against the Wolves and we face Denver over Minny in the first round. All in all, everything will be the same playoff wise... everyone else is just a pretender with the Lakers being the biggest to benefit and contend for a playoff spot somewhere within the 5th and 8th seed.
How did the west got better all of sudden with Lebron? OKC is the same, GSW is the same, Lebron with current Lakers roster aren't going to be different in the West. Spurs will ship Kawhi to the east. Having Lebron with most likely get the Lakers a 8th or 7th seed if lucky. Mavs with DJ is not going to get them anything better than 8th seed. We will still be top two seeds with GSW. Portland, OKC, Utah, pelicans, and wolves are all better than lakers.
As far as the West getting better, we were 16 games better than anyone not named the Warriors. This “new” west looks a lot like the west last year. Lakers may start making noise next year.
Didn’t say Phx would be in the playoffs but they won’t be an easy win anymore and same applies to the Mavs. Way to try and twist my words up to push your argument. Hashtag Do better
Ok, that still doesn't make a difference. The West is going to be just a little bit tougher so that you can't win easy against two teams. Wow. What a big difference from last season! Pure genius!
Because Lebron makes them better.. I mean obviously this isn’t the east but he’s going to open up so much for Ingram and Kuzma as well as help Zo with playmaking. OKC can only get better in year 2 imo.. Portland, OKC and Utah are better than the Lakers? Tough sell there man... you just said OKC is the same but said LA is worse than them. You don’t honestly believe that. I said We’re the 2nd best team too but the west will be more complete and competitive as a whole. 3-8 we’re separated by a few games last year and I think it will be 3-11ish this year.
Ah yes the condescending, I know more than you attitude because we don’t agree. Loosen up them Red goggles buddy. You’ll be ok. Also trying to twist my words into that 2 easy wins are gone as the platform for my argument is absolutely comical. AS A WHOLE.. the west will be more competitive
that front office needs to seriously work on their diversity. I love Morey and all, but that's a little embarrassing in 2018 ...seriously.
