I'm just not going to be enamored by any modern day closer.... unless they also happened to do it in the playoffs over a long period of time.

All those guys I mentioned will have the same if not better credentials than Wagner and I don't think any of those guys are more deserving (yet they'll probably make their case and eventually get in as well).

Kimbrel already there and has post-season cred. Jansen there from a longevity stand point... and has more post season success than Wagner (but has failures there as well... as we know).

Wagner failed spectacularly in the post-season. I can't give him a pass on that.

In the end, none of them should be in except Rivera. By definition, being a closer already puts you in the "hall of very good" status for your career... because if you were better, you'd have been a starter.

Are you just looking at saves?

Nope. years pitched, career ERA, WHIP, playoff numbers.

I'm back to saying none of them should be there except Rivera.

Altuve's continued rebellion against the ASG is not helping anything HOF-wise.

Does that really matter to voters? I don’t think it does.

I'm not sure, but it definitely won't help.

Altuve already has trashcans going against him (whether he cheated or not). It's the exact same with Blanco -- he should've been an All-Star, but was not likely due to his suspension. "Outside" factors can affect the outcome.

The point is, throwing the middle finger repeatedly to the ASG does nothing to help Altuve's chances of HOF. He might still get in, but it will prob cost him a couple years. You know how the HOF works --- year-by-year waiting for the outcome, year-by-year --- and not knowing if the outcome you want happens until it happens (or doesn't). Year-By-Year

    I don't see an impact.

Where are these corrupt anti-Astro voters? The Astros have had three consecutive top 5 finishes in MVP voting since the scandal, including Altuve in '22 (Correa, '21; Tucker, '23). Verlander won the Cy Young in 2022.

There's no evidence there's a bias - but voting on anything subjective is inherently biased. There's nothing "factual" about it because there are no definable milestones that merits induction.

Altuve is going to get in. He may have to pay with a wait - but it'll be a year, maybe 2. Then he'll sail in.

This is such a tired narrative. Do you know how many MVPs Derek Jeter - Mr. Yankee, himself - won? Zero. In fact, since 2000, the Astros have won more MVP/CYA/ROY (7) than the Yankees (6).

If the Yankees had sway, no way Bernie Williams falls off the ballot after two years. No way Jorge Posada falls off after one. Andy Pettitte wouldn't be wasting away in the 10-20% range for six years if there was any Yankee sway.

The Yankees are not a factor in this.

Did you see Blanco's suspension impacting All-Star selection?

Baseball writers have nothing to do with the All-Star selections.

Managers and coaches vote on the Gold Glove, not baseball writers.

LOL at absurd/dumb thinking and notions.

Jose Altuve has his reasons for skipping the All-Star Game. But it’s not the same without him

When voters depended on the so called eye test, it helped to be on one of those teams that get more media attention. I'd agree today's voting, it doesn't help as much even though to a degree it should for those guys that played so many postseason games. I'd also be curious how much PEDs affected Pettitte. Relationships with the media are perhaps more valuable than anything beyond stats. It is why David Ortiz sailed in and Curt Schilling fell short.

Jimmy Wynn got 0 HOF votes. That will always stand out to me.

Blanco missing 10 days and 2 starts potentially hurt his all star chances. The fact that he missed that time due to suspension did not impact it.

But yes, I figured missing those 2 starts was gonna hurt.

    ^^^^Responses like this why you're a troll ^^^^

There's at least one All-Star starting pitcher with 7 fewer starts than Blanco.

But go ahead and cap about 2 starts (really just ONE start anyways) being the difference and whether you see HOF impacts for Altuve.

Well it's a good thing I could give a rats ass what you think of me.

I'm an Astro fan who thinks a lot and has opinions. That's all.
