I'd like to think that both players have good chances, especially for Torres who has gotten some national attention for his play of late, and then you have Eddie Griffin, who pick the right time to breakout against the Lakers on national TV. Obviously all rookies don't make it. I think Torres is a lock, and Griffin is in good shape.

Can some one back me up on this? Wasn't Shawn Marion left off the rookies team in 2000 (in Golden State). I can't remember.

Oscar's definitely going to become a David Stern favorite. They'll try their best to market him to all of the latin american countries...

I don't have it on authority, but I think there's a very strong chance they'll both be there. usually, the lottery picks are there, and as has been mentioned, stern will not miss an opportunity to market the hell out of Oscar.

who are the other Western Conference rookies?

    shane battier
    pau gasol
    eddie griffin
    oscar torres
    loren woods
    tony parker
    vladimir radmonovich
    troy murphy
    jason richardson
    gilbert arenas
    gerald what'shisname at sacremento

these are all the ones I can think of. I think eddie and oscar make the team out of these names. I don't remember who denver and phoenix drafted.

The Rookie Challenge is the rookies against second year players, so you have to add Eastern Conference Rookies to the mix:

    Joe Johnson
    Kedrick Brown
    Joe Forte
    Richard Jefferson
    Brandon Armstrong
    Jason Collins
    Kwame Brown
    Brendon Haywood
    Stephen Hunter
    Rodney White
    Michael Bradley
    Jamaal Tinsley
    DeSagana Diop
    Eddy Curry
    Tyson Chandler
    Trenton Hassell

You're going to put Johnsn in front of Battier or Richardson? i think the rookies will win. With Tinsley,Battier,Richardson,Gasol, and Haywood thats a pretty ggod team. To think of it, that team would probably beat our team.

i think Q has to be the starting 2 on the sophs ith 49%fg,46% 3pters 5 rebs and 14pts in 24 minutes.

I can see your point with Battier, but Richardson? No thanks. I would feel comfortable with either Johnson or Battier in my starting lineup.

And I also agree about Quentin Richardson though.

JB - Shawn Marion pretty much sucked in his Rookie Season , plus ahead of him was , Baron Davis , Francis, Odom , Wally Sir Biatch, Brand and a few others . I doubt OZ or griff start in the thing unless Griff continues his hot streak. Oz would be nice to see as a #11 or #12 .

Remember last year, most of the lottery picks were not invited to the Rookie game. Hopefully Rudy will continue to give Griffin the minutes for the next month. With adequate mintues, Griffin could easily be in the hunt for Rookie of the year, or at least Rooke of the month (for Jan).

Problem is Rudy will go back to non-performing veterans and ISO's plays that only hurt ball movement and stats for most of the team.

Did anybody notice, last night, when KT entered the game (playing center). The entire team was sitting on the 3 point line!! that had to be a new NBA record.

No one is talking about the high schoolers:D
This rookie class migth turn out to be pretty solid.
They might beat the second years, but probbaly not.

    I think it will be:

    C-Haywood
    PF-Gasol
    SF-Battier
    SG-Richardson
    PG-Tinsley

I think Griffin and Torres will be a lock for the team.

Oscar's chances are probably better than Eddie's. Oscar's 8th amongst rooks in ppg right now. Eddie'll need a lot more starts before he can catch up.

You all seem to be forgeting about Parker in S.A.

I think he is a lock because he starts as a rook for one of if not the best team in the NBA right now (damn them)!!!

I also think Chandler is lookin ok in Chi-town he might be a sleeper

    my others are:

    Richard Jefferson
    Tores
    Gasol
    Battier
    Tinsley
    and hopefully EG

I just don't like Haywood, so I would not mind if he did not get the call.
