It depends on the venue, but listening to music through speakers is nothing like good, live music to me. I guess if you're not a huge music fan or don't have any real favorite bands/artists, it might not be much fun. But the energy and excitement you get from a concert can't be replicated through some speakers. I guess it's kind of like watching a game on TV versus being there- some people just don't like to go out in the crowds. I don't like the crowds either, so I'm only going if it's a team I really want to see.

What is their not to get about rental cars? You fly somewhere or your car breaks down and you need transportation.

    Checkers'
(restaurant): How could anyone with taste buds eat that food, the hamburgers are to the quality of lunch-room food from high school (possibly prison).

The popularity of Glenn Beck: I can understand O'Reilly, Hannity, Rush, and Savage. But, Beck is the complete opposite of those guys, he's much more whiny; possibly tin-foil persona; ridiculously over-the-top theatrics; and does not seem, like he knows what the hell he is talking about.

    Success of Twilight: ????

    Success of Justin Beiber: ????

Success (or moderate success) of Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girls
    : ????

Bigger rally against the Vatican and local archdiocese for protecting criminal priest for prosecution: If you had what was going on with the Vatican going on with our own federal or state governments, you'd almost a full-scale riot going on with some factions trying to overthrow sitting government.

Iraq War: From its inception to as talk right now, especially after Bush said, "Mission Accomplished" in 2003.

How in the hell did shows, like Arrested Development (FOX), Freaks & Geeks (NBC), and Aliens in Americans (CW, not surprised about this one, it was too intelligent for them anyway) get cancelled so soon . . . while the network gave more chances to most less worthy shows with same ratings?

Avatar becoming the highest grossing movie ever: Good innovative film. I do not know what it is - the characters, the story, or the memorability of the movie (by that I mean is it movie that get excited about watching when you pull it out 20 years later), I could understand Titanic (story); Any movies from the Star Wars trilogy, not prequels (definitely), Jaws (definitely); Superman (definitely), and even ET (which still has it's moments and was fairly low budget, movie given the period of time, only cost $10 million to make)

The hype around Obama (during the 07-08 election season)
: I'll probably get ripped for this, but who cares I get ripped every day, anyway for having such apathy for the world. I would hear people talk about his speeches, like no one had ever heard such orator, before in their lives. I listened to him at the debates and campaign speeches.

Personally, I was more impressed Kucinich and Gravel for having the scruples to support things that were not popular, but needed to said or done (didn't agree with them on everything, if I voted democratic, I would've chosen both over Obama, but they probably were not even on the ballot at that point).

Still, wondered what some of the hype was around this guy, but then I read his voting record and major contributions' list then it was all too clear. Though to his credit, he does come across more competent than Bush (politics aside) ever, which is not saying much and was most likely becoming a stronger candidate than Edwards and Clinton. I could understand push in the mainstream media (just look at his sponsors), but not among ordinary people. It was some of his supporters who sometimes made him to be a savior of sorts . . . while his haters who have become all too popular these days labeled him as a socialist-atheistic-non-American Muslim who might be anti-Christ and try destroy the social fabric of America as we know.

It's really weird, because you pull out his stances on many issues and compare them to other democrats and some Republicans. I would estimate most Americans could not tell who was who in grand scheme of politics. I'll even go one up and say how some of his more vehement critics would feel about the man, if you look at his record without his name or picture. I just do not see this drastic difference that could cause people, so emotional. Ron Paul, I could certainly understand. Jesse Ventura, I could understand. Ralph Nader or Mike Gravel, definitely could understand. Barack Obama, politically speaking is a decent status quo president or politician.

This went quickly to "things that I DISLIKE" instead of things that "I don't 'get' but everyone else seems to"... really really fast.

Opinions... opinions... not really things that are "complicated."

How do you not get religion? Either you believe in God or you don't.

    I don't get:

    -Doctors
    -The American Health Plan
-Obama's Health Plan, just because you hear many are against it you want it more. Don't be stupid.
-Why some people put money before everything in life no matter what, or who it kills.

I have wide feet, and they are one of the few makers that make extra-wide.

If I run on Nike's, I get blisters all over the place.

I guess what I don't get is how there are so many things that people don't get, according to this thread. I mean these are some pretty simple things to understand ... just because they don't appeal to you doesn't mean they are necessarily hard to understand.

Whoever said the crowded club/bar thing, that is a good example IMO. I really don't get it when it's just a bunch of people standing around and no dancing going on.

The fallacy of this post, gayzar, is that you are assuming EVERYONE else here gets Swoly. Um, not the case, NO ONE gets him - thus people posting about that are not following the rules of the thread title - "What are some things that you don't 'get' that everyone else seems to?" :p

Somewhere, Fatty Fat has just shed a tear.

But he quickly wipes the tear off his face and then applauds you, OS.

What is hard to understand about that? Some people like to exercise and that is the way they do it. Not everyone who lifts weights is into being a bodybuilder. It is a good way to burn calories and in turn raise your metabolism. When I was lifting on a regular basis, I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted and not worry about gaining weight. Not anymore, though as I have quit lifting like I used to. :(

Tom, stop explaining why people should "get" their own examples in this thread. They are entitled to their own opinion, right?

To me as a music fan going to a concert is the ultimate rush. Its cool to listen to a cd or ipod, but nothing beats the energy of being in a venue hearing them play it in person. The live cd was invented to try and reproduce the energy of a live show, but it falls short too just like a regular cd.

dhr, you can go through the majority of the posts in this thread and somewhat make your agrument just as i'm about to do to yours in a sec. i can understand your point, but since you replied to several of mine, i'll explain:

pita bread and hummus - don't understand how this became popular or if it's been around. i've had it at the coffeeshop i live across the street from and it's not really all that great, but i've seen it other places too.

new balance shoes - i should have put in tennis shoes in general unless they are used for some sort of athletic activity (like running or jumping on someone's car). wearing them during casual activity... ???

class rings - see ffb. wearing as daily jewelry i don't understand. i don't understand the need in a big ol' gawdy ring to show the accomplishment that you mentioned. if you do... that's cool. that's what this thread is for.

weightlifting - seems more like torture to me. i know that some folks "enjoy" it, but i've known others that don't get the endorphines that some get by doing that or running. i've tried it for an extended period while in atl and results didn't seem worth the torture. or maybe i'm lazy... i dunno. :)

smokign bans - sorry, bro. :) i won't touch this here in the hangout. there's been a thread in d&d about it in the past and i don't want to get into a long/drawn-out post fest with someone.

why is that a good example? maybe because they're not the dancing type? maybe they don't like to dance like you do. i sure in the heck don't. just going by what you posted below:

    ??? see what i mean?
