-Have his Chinese scientists invent a full leg brace that reduces impact when jumping up and down. -Switch to Nike. -Shave his head & wear a head band. - Invite LeBron to his hometown, then have his govt. threaten him to join the Rockets and play for the chineese national team in the summer instead of Yao.
Maybe the Rockets should play a lot of zone defense (like how PHX did against LA) when Yao is in the game so that he doesn't have to expend that much energy chasing guys off of pick & rolls. Yao's knock on defense is that he has limitations to guarding the quick and stretch bigs. If the NBA ends up getting rid of the defensive 3 second rule like Stern suggested, it might be worth considering. On offense, most of his catches should come off of the PF in a high-post to low-post. The angle of entry would allow only a player of Yao's size (and no one is) to bother the pass. When he catches the ball in the post, he shouldn't try to take more than 1 dribble. Instead, he should: a) shoot over the defense, b)make a quick move to the basket, or c)pass out to a open teammate. One might argue that it makes Yao predictable, but that's what makes great players great; the ability to succeed even when the defense knows what's coming.
Yao Ming, all the very best for the upcoming season! However I hope Coach Adelman remembers to tell everyone that the the ball needs to go through you! Give them all some time as they have been playing without you for a whole season.
