During one of the Jazz's playoff games, there was a lot of speculation about what Stockton, Malone and Sloan would do. It was mentioned that Sloan has one more year remaining on his contract. It was also mentioned that he is not very fond of the work habits of the NBA's younger players. He's in the right direction, but just too abrasive for the 28 and under crowd.
First of all, let's get this straight. There is no way in Outter Darkness for Jerry Sloan to come to Houston. He has one more year left on his contract, and he'll either finish his contract or just quit after this year. No one knows right now. But, why would he come to Houston? If you speculate things like that, why not just speculate Jordan will come out of retirement again and join the Rockets, along with Tim Duncan and Jason Kid? This is out of nowhere and doens't stand any examination. Second, I doubt Sloan's style will work for the Rockets. Here in Utah, people respect him very much, but many still criticize him for not being able to bring along young players. Example: DeShawn Stevenson is said to be the most athletic younster in a Jazz uniform, but he's been in Sloan's dog house the first day he joined the team. Sloan gets in his face and tell him how stupid and lazy he is every now and then. Stevenson get yanked quickly when he makes a mistake. No patience for him from Sloan at all. Andrei Kirilenko, who along with Harpring, are the new favorite guys in SLC. Kirilenko's work ethic and attitude is very impressive, and he is an avid puple of Jerry Sloan's defensive style. However, he gets criticized by Sloan all the time. His average minutes this season is somewhere around 29 minutes. That's unacceptable according to many media members here in Utah. Everyone feels bad for him. If Stevenson and Kirilenko have a hard time with Sloan... think about Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Yao and Boki... I don't know. It might turn out good. Kirilenko is good after all. But I still doubt it will work with the Rockets. Anyway, there is no reason for Sloan go to Houston.
AAARRRGH!!!! Enough of this! Karl Malone in a Rockets uniform? John Stockton as an assistant coach? Jerry Sloan as the head coach? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING JAZZ!!!
Jazz envy just doesn't make sense to me at all. One of the funnest things about loving a sports team is hating another. You never, ever, cross that line. They may call this a business...but dammit, it isn't a business to *me* as a fan. I want to have someone to hate (well, not really hate, but in a laughing kinda way). And you better not *ever* make me root for them. Or then, R0ckets03 and I *will* make it a business issue. You hear that Les.
yeah, come on guys, what is this? Enough people tolerating the Jazz... I've always said, I'm gonna hate the Jazz until Stockton, Malone, and 1) any pupil of Jerry Sloan 2) any pupil of a pupil of Jerry Sloan are all gone. That will likely be another 10-15 years. By then, MAYBe if their crap is over, I'll consider not HATING them anymore. Until then, stop mentioning this ridiculous possibility.
would yall take sloan if he came in as an assistant to rudy t (never happen, but play along w/ me)? it would be the perfect "good cop/bad cop" scenario.
Nobody rants about the sonics. They destroyed our playoff hopes more than a few times. The Jazz were probably the most overachieving team in the past few years, you have to give them credit. I'd go for Sloan, but I can't see him joining another team. I like Silas too...
He would teach all our player how to play dirty all the time and we would become the most hated team in the league. hell no!!!!!
What about AntiSonic? If Sloan somehow ended up our coach, I'm sure we would soon after have to rebuild the team. A drastically different coach like Sloan is going to need players that fit into the way he conducts business. I don't imagine many Rockets players fit his mold, so most of the team would likely be traded.
Only one of the top ten best monikers of all time... Back to the topic... While we're at it, Griffin for Ostertag!! I despite all sports entities that obtain unfair advantage, be it Jordan Rules/Shaq hype, Yankees/old-Celtic dynasties (buy every good player), and this flop stuff over which Sloan presides. In fact, CB was right about the officiating in Utah, and I would add MSG (less so now that the Knicks stink) to the list of arenas you're guaranteed not to get a fair shake in (unless Jake O'Donnell was in the house). Sorry, I can't seem to find a way off this soapbox... Oh, here it is.
Movement? What Jazz team have you been watching? If by movement, you mean pick and roll with one of the greatest assist men in the history of the league, then, yes, movement.
