A lot of teams aren't going to be that high on a not so athletic, somewhat undersized, somewhat older than usual 2-guard (he'll be 24 before he ever wears an NBA jersey). Plus he's white and his last name rhymes with pansy. EDIT: geeimsobored pretty much beat me to it...other than the part about his last name. That's the kicker.
We're talking about a 2nd-round pick here. Typically, this is where you can find solid, young bench players and Pittsnogle or Novak would be just that.
i think it really depends on who we take in the first round. if we take a swingman like roy or carney, we should go big and look at paul milsap, craig smith, or brad buckman. if we go big with shelden williams, we should look to guys on the perimeter who can shoot. like gansey, allan ray, or taquan dean.
According to nbadraft.net, Gansey will be early 2nd round. They have him going the pick after us, with us drafting Paul Davis. In the first round, they have us taking Marcus Williams from UCONN.
Paul Davis recently was voted the most overrated player in the Big-10 in a poll of players. In other news, Davis is the Big 10's first 3 time recipient of that honor (garnering excessive hype as a sophomore, junior, and senior at Michigan State). Someone else said it but I'll repeat, Gansey is an undersized, unathletic, old, white shooting guard. PASS. I'll take a Dee Brown over him because of Brown's athleticism any day.
That second rounder won't get us up even one slot in the lottery, so I wouldn't be hoping for 3-5 slots .
If Pittsnoggle falls to the 2nd round, you have to take him. Even if he is no better than Scott Padgett, that would still be a great 2nd round pick. For the most part, if you can get a player in the 2nd round who can stick in the NBA, it's a good pick. A guy like Pittsnoggle, who can shoot the three decently, and do a bit of rebounding would be a very nice addition to this team, and a great pick in the 2nd round.
I agree with Vengeance here... If Pitsnogle is available at our pick in the second you have to take him. No I don't think he is going to be any kind of star in the NBA but he will have decent NBA career as a backup PF/C that can shoot the three. If you can get a 6'10" player that can shoot in the second round you take him. Another player that should be available here is Taj Gray from OU, he could be a steal at the top of the second (he could be a bust too just like every player drafted) but he is tall and athletic. I also like the idea of picking Gansey with our second if available or maybe Reddick. Has anyone seen or know anything about this Louis Amundson from UNLV? The NBAdraft.net profile is interesting on him thought it does say he can't shoot but everything else sounds great.
I think Rashad has greatly improved his stock up to the first round (at least between 20-25 range) with his showing in this year's dance. I have a feeling that we could land very good players in both rounds of the draft. It does seem like there is an abundance of serviceable NBA quality talent coming out for this draft (though you will not find much hype around most of them). We have so many holes now that we could use as many young talent as possible. Hopefully Vassilis could over as well. We need help! This could be a deceptively good draft [hunch says].
Doubtful, considering nbadraft.net doesn't have him being drafted AT ALL. And don't say "what do they know?" because I guarantee they know more than you, or the majority of us here.
Draftexpress does have him going in the 2nd round (but they do agree that he isn't likely to land in the first round). http://www.draftexpress.com/mock.php?y=2006 I don't even pay attention to nbadraft.net anymore. When you take a look at the scouting and information on draftexpress it's just leagues better. And while draftexpress has been tracking players during this tournament run and updating their board, the nbadraft board has been virtually unchanged for weeks now. Nbadraft.net doesn't even have Joakim Noah on their board despite his draft stock going through the roof. Both draftexpress and espn has Noah in their top 5. And whatever you think of Chad Ford and espn insider, he is plugged in with NBA scouts and GMs and does track pretty accurately where guys are likely to go.
Nothing against the Rashad Andersons and Mike Ganseys of the world, but we already have enough bench calibur guards on the team. Head, Bogans, Sura, Wesley, Brunson, Frahm..... Granted, some of those guys wont be back here next year. I can picture Wesley re-signing for the vet minimum and Bogans for cheap, but my point still stands that we would still be without an adequete starter. No 2nd-round pick will be starting for our team anytime soon.
I'm not sure what you are trying to say here? Either your saying that the second round is a waste of time and we should forget it, or you think we might as well gamble on someone tall in the second because we have enough bench guards. Either way I'd like to here who you think we should take at the top of the second?
I do not know if you follow draft closely (at least in the last 3-4 years) but you paid attention you will note that in the last few years (as is many NBA drafts) 2 or 3 players find their way into the first round after being lowly rated or not even on the radar. Go check the mock draft on you the nbadraft.net that you so put yoy hope on and check previous mock drafts. Just last year alone very few rated David Lee, Luther Head, Nate Robinson and Linas Kleiza high enough but they snuck into the first round late in the "game". FWIW, Rashad is at least as good (if not better) as than two of the four I just mentioned - and this draft is supposed to be weaker. Like I said, my hunch says that Rashad makes the first round.
All i'm saying is we have enough bench calibur guards and we don't need to waste a draft pick on taking another one. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, i'm very intrigued by Kevin Pittsnogle and Steve Novak. We are desperately lacking shooting off the bench and its not often players with size have the kind of accuracy and range that they have.
Steve Novak: FG-45.7%, 3PT-46.4%, FT-93.2% Kyle Korver: FG-47%,3PT-45%,FT-89%(in college) Are you happy with choosing a 6'10 Kyle Korver in 2nd round?
