Wow, I think this thread qualifies as the greatest example of illiteracy and poor grammar as we have in our country. But beyond that, I am against anything with Gooden. He is a decent player, but I just don't see him offering much over what we have currently. Good rebounder and decent size, but average athleticism, no jumper, and poor on defense. Not even sure he is an upgrade over Howard, let alone worth giving up Luther Head or a #1 next year. And his contract would be a constant source of irritation around here.
He is a world-class athlete compared to Juwan Howard. I also disagree that he has no jumper, he probably shoots it at a higher percentage than Howard too. The problem is he makes a couple of plays every game that make you want to jump off your couch because of how stupid they are. For example, he will try to go coast to coast on his own even when LeBron is trailing on the wing. Or try a behind the back pass in traffic when there are wide open guys all around him. He's also a lousy defender, but he's a very talented rebounder.
Gooden is an overrated rebounder -- his average is so high because Zydrunas and James require so much attention, opening up for rebounds. Boozer's average dropped drastically when he moved to Utah; expect the same from Gooden. Plus he's a headcase, who often wastes his offensive skills. He goes MIA for large stretches of gametime. His oversensitivity would not mix well with JVG. That'll be a pass for the Rockets (and the Celtics!)
Daruis Songlia would be a marvelous fit to backup or even start in place of Howard. Think of a extremely rich Ryan Bowen type of energy player.... http://www.nba.com/playerfile/darius_songaila/ http://www.hoopshype.com/players/darius_songaila.htm
Yeah, like Yao and McGrady do not draw just as much attention??? Gooden would be a considerable upgrade over Howard if we could get him and dump Juwan at the same time. He may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but he is worlds better than Juwan athletically. For all the "smartness" Juwan brings to the table he gives up even more because he is not athletic enough to guard a fire hydrant out there. And Gooden is a hustler/scraper (which puts him in a whole different class than Stro). If given 30 mpg on the Rox, I would expect him to give us double digit boards and be a defensive improvement over Juwan. Offensively, Drew has a very good back to the basket post game, something we don't really need unless Yao is out of the game. But, he would get us plenty of offensive boards and put backs, something Juwan would NEVER give us. The only thing that Juwan does better than Drew is hit that line drive missle rocket of a jump shot from 17 feet, that is when he is actually dialed in.
BYC = Base Year Compensation player - in matching salaries within 25% + $100K as required for capped out teams, a BYC salary only counts 50% towards outgoing amount ascribed to the team trading the BYC player, but 100% to salary taken by the team accepting the BYC player. It makes trades much more difficult for capped-out teams (although the 25% rule of the new CBA makes it a little easier; it used to be 15%). http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#73
found this on realgm.com trade forums: Houston gets: Drew Gooden Eric Snow Cleveland gets: Juwan Howard Raefer Alston 1st round pick Why Houston does this: Houston gets a veteran PG and they also get a young PF that will make it even harder to double team McGrady and Yao. Gooden would be able to be physical and score alot. Snow brings defense to the team and he also brings a healthy PG. PG-Eric Snow SG-Tracy McGrady SF-Shane Battier PF-Drew Gooden C-Yao Ming Why Cleveland does this: Cleveland gets Alston, a PG that puts up good numbers, but hes also injury prone. But they get Howard, who can help Varejuo develop and eventually be the starter. A.V. is still young and he would help Cleveland on both sides of the floor. They get a 1st because they get two older people. PG-Raefer Alston SG-Larry Hughes SF-LeBron James PF-Juwan Howard or Anderson Varejuo C-Zyndrunas Illgaskyus
I wouldn't say Boozer's average dropped drastically. He still got 9 a game. It's not like you could expect him to average 11.5 forever. And Donyell Marshall's rebounding didn't go up playing next to Z and Lebron, it went down. Gooden is a good rebounder. He'd be a good rebounder here. If you think Lebron and Z draw attention, you should see the kind of attention Yao and Tmac are getting. But I still don't think Gooden's a great fit for this team.
Eric Snow might be the worst starting PG in the league. He can't shoot, can't really defend anymore, isn't fast, and isn't a playmaker. Why exactly would the Rockets want him?
Gooden is a player highly unpredictable and very risky in my opinion. Plus, he obviously asks much more than he deserves. Say no to Gooden.
I still crack up every game (actually about 5 times a game) when Worrell says, "you can hang the wash on that shot"
S & T Rockets Get: Murrary and Gooden Cavs Get: D. Westly ( Read an article where they are lookin to sign him) and J. Howard
