Milicic is a restricted free agent, meaning Orlando can match any offer. The Magic have told Milicic to bring back an offer. "We have lots of options," said Marc Cornstein, Milicic's agent. Cornstein said he has heard from "25 teams" since the green flag dropped on the free-agent courting period Sunday. "There's a lot of interest," he said. "We've had some real offers to sign-and-trade deals . . . everything across the board." It also should end any notion that the MLE will nab him.
He should take the full MLE 5 years $35.6 million, get into a system that his fellow serbian comrads excelled in and compete for a championship this season coming up. He goes anywhere else he will stuck with just the extra 2 million dollars, his agent will benefit, but he'll be in another miserable system where they just want him to block shots and do the little dirty things. He will be unhappy,he won't feel like he is getting the most out of his abilities. He needs to be smart and look at the longevity of his career.
Thse dudes are all about the money these days and they wonder why down the road they never evolve into the players that they feel they are. Few really want to be good players and win championships, all these guy's care about now is money adn endorsments. No body wants to win anymore
Those agents are poison they will never advise Darko on the basketball side of things,It's all about the money with them. Darko can get his extra 3 million dollars for his agent, but he will be a miserable basketball player in a system that doesn't showcase his real skills.
You'd think a guy like Darko, who's been trashed in the media, would want to go to a place where he could best succeed to prove some people wrong.
How do you know? For all you know he doesn't even like basketball but plays it because he happens to be 7 foot tall and can get paid millions of dollars to do so. That's not all that uncommon. Do you think an innate part of being tall is having a love for basketball? It's not. Some of these guys honestly don't even care if they win or if they do well so long as they get paid. I don't know if that applies to Milicic, but neither do you. My point is you're making an assumption about what will make him happy based on what would make you happy. Well, the same things might not make you both happy. He might well be happier with the extra 3 million dollars.
Society right now is ruled by greed and extreme practices of capitalism. I wouldn't be suprised if the overral dialectic attitude is the same and the communistic manifesto is working it's coup magic on the average new generation athletes internal intellectual faculties. You are normally hypothetically a product of your envirionment and my dialectic observation from the analysis would come to the conclusion that there is a great chance that it isn't judging a book simply by the cover.
Wow, sorry, I agree with you that Darko would probably be a good pickup for the Rockets, but you need to put down the Reader's Digest 'It Pays to Enrich Your Word Power' section for a few minutes before your head explodes, and takes my monitor with it.
Not sure about this. The last time we signed a former #2 overall...we sent him back to where he came from...literally. But honestly...Darko seems like a good player that is still developing. He would be pretty productive immediately, but he could potentially be much more down the line if he continues to improve, which he is consistently doing. It's not my money...but I would give him a shot. Other teams certainly will.
My post from another thread: According to this article, the teams with cap space, and approx. $ available to spend (assuming a $57 million cap), are: Charlotte Bobcats, $31.2 M Milwaukee Bucks, $18.3 M Memphis Grizzlies, $14.6 M Detroit Pistons, $12.5 M Orlando Magic, $11.0 M ($18.0 M without Darko) Chicago Bulls, $10.2 M Atlanta Hawks, $8.6 M Hawks, Pistons don't really need PF's. And the Pistons obviously won't spend for Darko, if that is your specific target. I think the Bobcats lost a lot of capspace in their draft day deal. Bucks could probably use a backup PF, which you wouldn't think you'd spend more than MLE on? Magic apparently aren't interested in Darko, specifically. Grizzlies seem to be targeting Varejaeo. Cavs may match, but it'll be a close call. Bulls seem to be targeting a PF, though latest reports having them wanting to keep Nocioni, and looking at a Joe Smith, Chris Mihm type player. So, other than battling other teams with the MLE, I think the teams with space, looking to add a greater than MLE PF type, would be: Grizzlies - See what happens with Varejaeo Bucks - Depends on Yi. You'd think Gerald Wallace would be a smart play for them (if they re-signed Mo Williams, kept Yi, you'd have Williams, Redd, Wallace, Villanueva, Bogut with Yi to develop...not bad) Bobcats - Have to wonder if they've been saving cap space since their existence to spend it on a Darko/Mikki Moore type player. Makes little sense.
What the hell is that guy talking about? That is by far the most nonsensical post I've ever seen on this board. Congratulations, Cool Daddy.
I am all for signing Darko for a full MLE with a player option and a trade kicker. He is young enough and shown enough (#1 on his team in blocks, #2 in rebounds, decent 82games ratings) to merit this. I don't think it will be enough, there are enough teams that can offer more, like Memphis or Charlotte, or maybe he ends in Seattle or Orlando (they could finagle details where Darko goes to Seattle or where Seattle gets something like Battie or Turkoglu to clear salary for Darko to stay). But I would try.
He is apparently fond of the Communist Manefesto, which is big on 'dialectic determinism'. [rquoter] In classical philosophy, dialectic is an exchange of propositions (theses) and counter-propositions (antitheses) resulting in a synthesis of the opposing assertions, or at least a qualitative transformation in the direction of the dialogue. [/rquoter] In other words, a conflict between two ideas which results in somethng new. The communists think that communism is the logical outcome of conflicting ideologies in history, or something like that.
Right, but what did that have to do with me commenting on the fact that he was presuming he knows what will make Darko Milicic happy or miserable? It was nonsense. The big words don't throw me. I got me one of them college edumacations. It's his context that throws me. He quoted me like he was responding to my post, but then didn't really address any of it. I wasn't getting into the merits of capitalism vs. communism or whether or not Darko should value success in his field over money or vice versa. All I was commenting on is that we don't know what makes Darko tick, and that being the case, we shouldn't make presumptions as to what is best for him/will make him miserable or happy. You know what? I'm sorry I asked. I know you were just trying to be helpful. Still, that post was nonsense. Real talk.
