Korver does a hell of a lot more than Bullard did. I'm not gonna say Korver is an incredible defender, but he gets out there and tries.. better than Bull could do against a 2 or a 3. Korver is incredible off-balance shooting also, while Bull needed to be lined up, ala Elie. Korver can be run off screens a couple of times a game for shots if TMac and Yao are both out of the game. LAst--I like Korver's hands--he gets his hands on some deflections. He's not the quickest, but he still manages to get a steal here and there. Of course, Korver is one of my fav players to watch, so I'm a little biased. But he's undoubtedly more than Air Bull was...and I loved my Rox back then too
Ok.. BOY... do you ever have anything to say about ANYONE other than to trash them, as though you are some kind of basketball god? You're like a broken record, and it's all the more annoying because you are clearly doing nothing but repeatedly pulling stuff out of your a$$. We get it already - there is no player on the planet who measures up to your lofty standards. You can put a sock in it now.
wow, i didn't realize korver made so little. the 5 yrs is a little iffy (but not because of some pipe dream of signing wade or lebron in 4 years when we need to be focusing on building a team around the great perimeter player + yao that we have now) but only making 4.0M when the MLE is like 5.2M is pretty good. the fact that he fits so perfectly into our larger TE makes it seem even better. like someone said, how much more can we realistically expect for our TE? 4.2M is kind of no man's land. you're either talking scrubs who make 2 or so million or by the time you get to talent they've jumped up to mle or greater deals. the fact you can get an adequate role player who can shoot the 3 real well is pretty good. from philly's perspective, if he really wasn't playing all that much last season, i can't imagine they wanna pay luxury tax on this guy as well. since they are at 81.5M (88M minus mckie's 6.5M from the amnesty cut) i can't imagine they won't be paying it this year, or at least making moves like dumping guys for a TE (or mashburn's expiring contract to the bobcats) would be the only possible way to avoid it. so i can easily see them just taking our TE. the only real questions are are we actually thinking about doing this (do we like korver) and are we actually willing to use the TE (is les cheap?). we probably won't find much better and it works well for both teams so i hope it happens but if it's a realgm rumor it almost certainly won't. and i would rather have korver than jones, though jones wouldn't be bad to have if he plays like he did in miami. edit: and if we actually did it, it would be kind of amazing to find two decent players with our TE's (especially the 1.7M TE) who made almost exactly what our TE's were worth.
From 82games.com (last year's stats): Korver's fair salary rating: $4.42 Korver's actual salary: $3.6 Jones' fair salary rating: $2.51 Jones' actual salary: $3.6
Korver at 25! Sure. If Philly is willing to part with him, I'm ready to cheer for em'. Cheer for 5 solid years. At the end of his contract he'll be 30/31... sounds perfect. Jones. He's older. He can be the backup PG. Play some SG. I'd go for him as well. Korver *** Jones *&1/2*
Van Gundier - Just a heads up ... at ClutchFans, it's always a bad idea to start a thread based on a message board post from some other site. I know you have all kinds of disclaimers on it, but it only serves to fan the flames of rumors. I changed the thread title to just be discussion about these players. Jon Barry was a poor man's Brent Barry ... until Brent Barry turned in to a poor man's Scooter Barry.
I wouldn't mind either Korver or Jones on this team, but that would suck the life out of our TE. I worry that Korver's defensive skills are bad and that would get exposed if he plays the two here. In Philly, Iguodala can defend the more athletic wing, but here he might be on his own since we don't want McGrady defending a good scorer throughout the season. Most importantly, though, I think they would want more than just the TE and Korver may not be worth it. I also worry that Jones is about done and his lack of athleticism these days would not make us any better behind Alston except for in the postseason. Cleveland would probably send the Rox a ox of chocolates if we took Jones for the TE. I think we would still need a Banks or even Spanoulis to offset the lack o f athleticism ack there.
Getting Korver would be a great idea if this is a possibility. He is exactly the kind of perimeter shooter the Rockets should be adding around TMAC and Yao. At his age and price this would be a good deal.
Dang if we pull Korver and Jones, and somehow squeeze in vspan, where the heck are we gonna put our reserves? ah yes, ryan bowen on the IR. thats where he belongs.
I had no clue Korver was even available! It seems like just yesterday the 6ers were so high on him. Besides Snyder, I'm so used to us letting our TEs expire so if we can actually USE it to shore up the depth we lost in the Battier trade for a young guy with talent for the thing we need, we'd be silly not to do it. Then again, REAL GM rumors.... grrrr. Oh, well.
If we don't lose anybody, korver is not a bad shooter coming off the bench considering all thats left in the free agency market. 5 years is long, but with his shooting, size, and age, he is a tradable asset if he doesn't work out for us. His stats don't look too bad considering he played with allen iverson and dalembert. The novak comparison is understandable, but the huge difference is that novak has yet to play a game with the pros while korver had a starting stint. i'm mixed on damon jones. He is slighty streaky, very slow, he's getting old, and a pretty bad defender. What I do like about him is that he makes big shots in big games. He made a few for miami and a big one for the win during the cavs series. having 3 years left helps him out also. im also down to give morey back to boston for delonte. I might just even throw in FLYIN ryan to sweeten the deal.
He seems to be more of a specialist, like Bull, but I admit to not having seen much of the guy. Can you imagine Yao, Battier, Tracy, Snyder, and Korver on the court at the same time? I don't know if that would work, but it'd be fun to watch.
I understand. Thanks for the reminder. I guess the Sixers were higher on Korver back in the Jim O'Brien days. He's still useful, but not sure they are willing to spend 4 mil in salary and another 4 in luxury tax just to keep him.
It would be pure salary dump for both teams so they would have to aweeten the deal for the Rockets. I would suggest: TE for Damon Jones Luther Head for Alexander Pavlovic + Future 1st + 2nd or TE for Korver + Future 1st. I wouldn't mind either player. Both shoot very well from 3 which is what the Rockets would want to acquire them for. Neither can defend at all. The only thing is it seems Damon has put his image ahead of honing his PG skills which I would assume would drive JVG absolutley crazy.
korver is a bit more proven where as novak has yet to play an NBA game. Plus we're talkin about 2 different positions and as you saw last season, Hitting shots is crucial no matter what position you're at.
2 Different positions? Korver is mostly a 3/4, IIRC. Isn't that what Novak is? That said, Novak is completely unproven where Korver has shown he can hit the three in the NBA.
