The same frye i said they shoulde signed this summer? Last year he was caught in a numbers game in portland and couldnt crack the rotation, but with yao out and no one over 6'9, i thought it wouldve been a good, low risk, player development type of move. Instead of getting a 30 yr old international guy like andersen, i preferred a guy like frye who is 26 also. Hey, what do i know?
So you knew Channing Frye, who had made 20 3pt shots in 4 years and, frankly, wasn't even that good at long 2s, was going to make 165 of them this season?
What i knew was he was a young big who had a solid rookie yr,fell off,got caught in a numbers game. I also knew he was 6'11 with range and the rockets had 0 in the middle. For 2m, i thought it was worth the gamble big time since the rockets were without yao. It doesnt surprise me he's hitting 3's because he's always had the range. Guys shooting 20ft isnt any difference than shooting from 23'9. No different than when raheed started shooting 3's. I thought it wouldve been a good, low risk move.
Well I'll give you this. You did call sigining Frye. My problem is Frye has been inivisible his entire career before he came to the Suns. He wasn't just caught in a numbers game in Portland, the year he came there Oden crumbled due to injury and there was a spot waiting for him after Prybilla and LMA. Even more than that, he started his career as NY's untouchable player, yet he ended up playing for peanuts as soon as his rookie contract was over. So its not like he was some undiscovered gem who just needed the opportunity to make it big, Channing Frye has been given so many chances to show the world what he's got and he failed to take advantage of it every single time. Its also not like he's become a really good player, he's still soft, a poor defender and a sub-par rebounder. If Channing Frye didn't discover his 3 pt shot (which Carl Herrera already mentioned came out of the blue), Frye wouldn't have been worth the 2 mill the Suns paid for him.
While were at it, maybe we should sign or trade for Lou Amundson. Wait! Lets not stop there! Why not Earl Clark, Goran Dragic and how bout we throw them Scola while were at it. We can rename ourselves the Houston Suns!
I think I remember that I read somewhere that he had the worst +/- (or was it PER) in the whole NBA during one particular season.
Ros, I'm not saying he was going to change the game or anything, but i thought this yr with the rockets getting good minutes, maybe you can discover some of what he did as a rookie. In portland, the most he was going to play was about 13 mins. Pryz and the #1 overral were going to man the 5 and lma was going to play 37mins a night. What frye does at the 4/5 is no different than what okur or brad miller does. This year wouldve been a great chance to see how he develops. I said 2 yrs ago they should've signed mbenga for vets minimum.
the jazz love mehmet okur. adelman has coached big shooters before. it can work, i'm just not sure your starting center should be a shooter. more an off the bench matchup problem for the opposing defense? not a bad idea for houston.
Brings versatility to the team? Creates matchup problems for about most of the 4s in the NBA? With Yao, Frye might not be so bad; Frye could set up camp at the three point line, and see what Yao does with the ball.
Amen to that my friend. Also, just like most of us think, we really need a bruiser C or F/C to play alongside Yao or to take his place when he is on the bench. A biggie who shoots 3's is not the way to go right now for our team. I would settle for a biggie who has a decent inside game and can shoot those mid range J's
Im pretty sure (from trolling thier forums) most of the Jazz fans hate Okur. They have never been contenders, just a "good" team.
shooting bigs spread the floor, open driving and force harder/farther rotations. That makes it harder for the D to help, and if on the court at the same time, gives Yao room to work.
