I'm no capologist but if Memphis is really that worried about moving Stoudamire couldn't something like this work.......

    Two-part trade:

Sura for Stoudamire + part of our TE for Warrick?

I agree with you, both of them are slow and unstable.

MemphisX mentioned he felt it might cost them a player like Warrick to convince somebody to take on the remaining $13M+ Stoudamire is owed. Add to that Warrick's minutes have been drastically reduced ever since the Czar got canned.

In general though, I would agree with you. If I was with Memphis and this deal was on the table I would definitely try to milk a pick out of the deal before agreeing to anything.

Another guy who would fit what I want is Anthony Johnson. But we would be the last team Dallas would want him to go to.

We would have to have him traded to another team, and then later traded to us. But I doubt we could find a willing partner to jack Cuban like that.

We need another vet PG for the playoffs IMO. The Heat should be even more desperate and our primary competition.

Desert Scar I like Anthony Johnson too but like you said Dallas would never give him to us. I have a question for you and anyone else who may want to answer it. What can we realistically get for the TE and Sura's expiring contract? All I'm seeing so far is heavily in our favor but not of any use to the other team.

Maybe we could get Mike James now that he's not playing much in Min behind Foyle. MJames would be a much better fit for this team.

I wouldn't mind having Mike James provided he would be willing to come off the bench. I should have made myself clearer in my previous post. Atkins could be acquired for the TE,Sura and maybe a 2nd round pick at best because he is a bench PG who can shoot which remains a need for us but West wouldn't want to give him IMO.
Maybe an Eastern Conference team in need of an expiring contract or the TE might agree for something but I'm not sure.

But he has the trade kicker and a higher salary, not to mention the history. A. Johnson, Atkins and Stoudamire are below our TE making moves much easier.

I don't think West would care if he made us better this year or not. They are in a much longer term rebuilding mode and are probably hoping to get the best draft pick next year (Oden?). West will take the best deal on the table for his team. Our TE gives us something most teams can't offer, taking on a player with a 100% salary relief.

I do think the the TE alone would be enough to get DStoud from them, releave them of that salary obligation. Atkins, I don't know. I think the Heat would be the chief comp for a veteran PG, but they don't have a TE and thus have to offer assetts (picks, player).

I think the TE is in play, this is more valuable than an expiring contract for the same amount for 2 reasons. 1, it can be used in other trades for 12 months, 2 it offers immediate relief of salary if not used.

As for "in our favor". That depends. Taking DStoud off their books for a TE may seem very even to them. Atkins is in his last year. I think with DStoud under contract for 2 more years and thier rook PG Lowry there is no future for him there barring moving DS. In short, I see no way both Atkins and Stoud are on the team next year, making a move now can get something out of a loss. If I were them I'd certainly considering taking JL3 or Novak or VSpan + part of the TE for Atkins OR probably DStoud strait up for the TE--which would free them up to resign CA (certainly if we throw in cash and maybe an 09 2nd rounder or some other very minor draft considerations).

No, we need a vet who can come in and play right now. We have the long term young flyers like VSpan and JL3, we need someone who is ready.
