    Rockets were over the luxury tax each of the last two seasons heading into the trade deadline. We managed to get under and still acquire Martin for TMAC and last year dumping Battier and using the trade exception.

    How much has Les Alexander spent on acquiring draft picks the last few years? More than all of the other owners combined.

    You don't spend money just to spend money. Morey has a plan in place and he will stick to it.

    It is this. Don't all the marqee FAs go to Lakers, Knicks, Heat and now the Brooklyn-bound Nets.

    Can't really think of any signficant FAs who went to the Spurs or the Mavs... and they have both been more competitive than the Rockets for the past decade. And those are just the other Texas teams.

    It's the geography man....

    WTF are you talking about? Miami has been under the luxury tax for years. It was the only way they could get capspace for LBJ/Wade/Bosh. They are still under the luxury tax today.

    Orlando and Boston got their main pieces through the draft. Orlando went over the luxury tax by paying max for a guy that wasn't a superstar(Rashard), and dumping him for Arenas, only to amnesty him and get below the luxury tax.

    We all know LA's story. Players want to go to LA, even if they can get larger max offers from their own teams(CP3/Howard). Houston ain't sexy like LA. It's not close to all the movie stars and marketing opportunities and chances for tv show/movie appearances, e.g. Odom(Kardashians), Shaq(Kazaam), Bdavis(various guest star apperances). They just went after the Laker's 2nd best player in Gasol. Pau Gasol said he didn't want to leave LA for Houston.

    Stern's trade block has nothing to do with unwillinginess to spend money on max players.
