The truest words I've read here in years. They're actually taking the the One Fifth steak concept/menu to the current Underbelly location, and opening a stripped down Underbelly somewhere else. So... good news for you, FAM.
I liked Romance Languages, didn't love it, some stuff was great, others not so great, probably more of a palette thing. Definitely worth a try. I'd go back. But I can totally see someone loving One Fifth, and not digging RL.
Since I moved to Cali I really fell in love with Mastros. Now you guys have one here......definitely worth checking out if you haven't
I've only been once (don't live in town), and didn't get to try a ton of the menu, but what I had was good. My main point is that it certainly isn't a "dud."
Ya their prime rib is excellent. Steaks are good as well but nothing spectacular. Pappas, Del Friscos and Capital Grill are Top 3 for me. Etoille in Uptown Park had a really good filet if looking for a french style steak and frites. Need to try some of the newer places like 48, STQ and now Mastros. Went to Ruth Chris a few years back and had a pretty bad experience, grant it was restaurant week and felt they used a different quality than usual but it was not nearly as good as I had remembered.
But not a great steak either...at least not at Fielding's Local. I haven't had it at Fielding's Kitchen yet...which is supposed to be nicer. The burgers at Local are very good and they have the most amazing green beans I've ever eaten. There's also now a Fielding's Rooster.
Pappas BBQ is notoriously bad, to the point that they had to buy out Luther's to compete. Having said that, their steakhouse is exceptional for a chain.
Pappas and B&B Butcher are probably my two favorite.. 1/5th was pretty damn good, haven't tried romance languages yet.
ate at pappas on sunday night. that was the best steak ive ever had. got a 12 oz filet mignon with some huge, perfectly cooked asparagus and potatoes au gratin. we got these deviled eggs with crab meat too, which were fantastic. my brother enjoyed it, but said he liked the steak he had at killens a bit more.
No mention of Fogo or Chama? Haven't been to Fogo in years and Chama probably in a couple of years, but both are awesome. Yeah its not the single best piece of meat ever, but its damn good. Sometimes its a little undersalted, but I carry my own fleur de sel.
Didn't know they had Deviled eggs with crab but the wife and I usually get the Lobster Devil Eggs. Like others have mentioned, Pappas is the #1 place for steaks in Houston. Only went to B&B Butchers once and it was okay to me but the Chef's Tommy Bacon was delicious though. I'd give the place another try.
