This may sound like a minor thing but I'd love to get Cato back. Hear me out now haha. Hes a big body that can be active on D and is great at backdoor swats to help out Yao. He knows Gundy's system (btw Gundy better prove himself this yr and stop bein stubborn but thts a diff post) and could step right in. Ya hes not gonna score the ball a ton and hes still Cato but I thought he did pretty dang good the one yr he was at PF next to Yao and I think he makes the game easier for Yao. PLUS you know he's gonna be cheap. Low risk for a decent reward. Thoughts? oh and sign JL3 before someone else does!
Not anymore... 2 guards are getting quicker and smaller.. Asking TMac to guard 2s would be putting him in a precarios situation for a number of reasons: - Crouching... be ginger with that back - Running... chasing guards around the perimeter is bad news. He needs to save his energy for the offensive end and hes so much more effective closer to the basket where he can provide help defense (especially with Battier banging the PF spot) and wipe boards. - Foul trouble... for the above reasons
JVG is quoted saying "we need pitbulls... we have a team full of milk drinkers" Split Evans with Elson and NeNe and you have one scary front court that will leave lumps on your dome.
We dont have any contractual benefits from it but its kind of a gentlemans agreement that we'd get first dibs I believe. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.
i still think one of our biggest problems is not only versitility, but atleticism. being able to change a nullified play on the fly is huge, and especially on this team. whoever we bring in needs to be able to create on his own if needed. last year at the end of the year reminded me of the old days when we used to just throw the ball into hakeem and watch him work, but there was only two problems last year. first yao wasnt and never will be hakeem, and even if he was, nobody last year would have nearly been able to fit the bill even on the championship teams when standing around was the concept. not to mention how pathetic when as a viewer i could actually see the play break down, and it seemed like everyone was looking at each other for someone to do something, and the only problem was, there wasnt anyone on the team to do that. battier will be able to spot up, but i dont think he brings that ultimate athleticism that we need. i think we got our shooters, although one more would be nice, but i think ya'll get the point. ATHLETICISM!
I say we try to pick up..... Grayson Boucher AKA The Professor He is a little undersized, but he is a slasher and he runs the point really well, Alston can probably talk him into signing with us for the Cheap!!
Man no one mentioned Rasual Butler what is he-off the market? This guy is 6'7, has a good 3pt% (38%) and a good FG% (40%). He's athletic and has a nice wingspan. His main position is a SF but I'm sure he can play SG as well.
I think shooting is more important than athleticism. the ball will run through Tmac and Yao 95% of the time meaning that other players will be left open for most of the time. I think because of this, a player like House would be a much better fit than Fred Jones coming off the bench.
I'm going to cut an paste a post from Old Man Rock, who turned me on to this guy. I hope he doesn't mind. I posted a couple of times about him myself, but search is turned off, and I don't want to dig. I happened to remember where Old Man's was, so here you go: Check out the links. A 6'6" SG, who's been the best Euroleague player the last few seasons, and wants to return to the NBA, despite his success. He's an American, familiar with the NBA, and has just a host of skills. The Raptors are looking to sign him (I think Duece came up with that), so let's steal him from the former team of Mike James. Parker is 31, but just wants a portion of the MLE. Fills a real need, would add tremendously to our depth, and would leave us with part of the MLE and our TE's for other players. This is a guy under the radar. Dammit, let's see if we can get him. Read the Draft Express article about him.
I'd give Murray a shot, we are in desparate need of a PG though. JL3 is not the answer for big minutes off the bench.
As was mentioned earlier, the Mavs have been rumored to be in touch with Greg Buckner. I'm a Mavs fan and was sad to see Buck go. At the time he was one of those gritty defensive glue guys. Not the most talented guy on the floor by any stretch, but a hard worker. I think he'd be a good fit for either the Rockets or the Mavs and I think JVG and Avery both like to have guys like that on the team. He has a decent shot and his threes have improved the last two years in Denver. He's by no stretch a key piece for a contender. He's not a true difference maker. But, he's certainly a guy who would have a solid place in a playoff rotation. I look for him to be an upgrade over Adrian Griffin should the Mavs land him. Lots of talk from Mavs fans about Marcus Banks too but as far as I can tell neither of our teams have been linked to him in any official rumors.
S&T for Jefferies Split MLE on V-span and Arizia, that basically is 3 guys that can play 1-5. solves our youth problem too.
God ****!!!! Caught up in Mike ****ing James, and missed the freakin' boat. I think we had an excellent chance to get this guy, but the Rockets front office continues to keep their head up their ass. DAMN! I am PISSED.
