I heard on ESPN radio here in Dallas that he was a bad out side shooter a couple of years ago when he played with Dallas, but since he was traded to Denver, he has developed solid outside shooting.

what about eddie house? the guy can shoot 3's off the double all day, and he's not much smaller than james anyway. by the way, i know he might not fit in attitude wise here, but salim stoudamire is lights out from downtown as well. i'd love to get him from atl in maybe a trade, maybe mid season?

I'd like to see us go after Jared Jeffries, Melvin Ely, or Reggie Evans in the front court. As for guards probably Marcus Banks or Lindsey Hunter.

I'm not high on Banks. He's raw. Sure, he's young and quick, but, hey, so is Head. I'd much rather Head see minutes off the bench instead of Banks. Head can shoot and defend just as well.

Stevenson is raw and athletic and one of the more polished free agents left. But he does not have a high basketball IQ and does not shoot well. He can run the floor and play a transition game---things the Rockets dont do.

I like Jeffries, simply because of his defensive ability and versatility. He can play 4 spots effectively and is an able ballhandler. I think he would thrive with us. He's a smart, heady player.

I also like Murray because he can shoot, score and has experience as a point guard. He'd be the ideal combo guard off the bench and really played well with Cleveland last year.

I'm not sold on Ariza. He's young, athletic and can jump outta the building but he's not the ideal fit for us. Can't shoot, can't handle the ball.

Van Horn would be a nice backup 4 if he came cheap. He can shoot, has a decent post-up game and is a nice rebounder. Plus he's smart and is a good passer. Wouldn't mind seeing him in a Rockets uni.

Padgett doesn't make sense now that we have Novak. They both do the same things, but Novak--seemingly--does it better, has greater range and is younger, plus is more effective off the dribble.

Salmons is headed to Phoenix so that's a mute point.

If it was up to me, I'd like to split the MLE between Murray and Jeffries, and try and sign either Van Horn or Kelvin Cato to the veteran's minimum.

    C: Yao/Cato/Deke
    PF: Howard/Van Horn/Hayes/Novak
    SF: Battier/Jeffries
    SG: Murray/Head
    PG: Alston/John Lucas III

    Not too shabby.

Yeah, he can shoot it... but its not like he commands the respect of the defense enough to be very effective on the offensive end. As a backup, I think he's ideal.

    Great ideas!

Eddie House would be an excellent scoring punch off the bench. But if we do get House, Head is too redundant to keep so we should trade him while his value is still high (I dont expect Head to see the PT he saw last year for a long time).

Stoudamire is similar in that he can change the composition of the game with his scoring off the bench.

Note: Earl Boykins was voted 2nd to Shaq by coaches as the player that creates the most matchup problems.

Disagree with C, but at SF and PF, he is quick, athletic, controlled and would add tremendous depth to our front court.

Flip Murray is intriguing...his production jumped after he was traded to Cleveland...he seemed to benefit quite a bit from playing alongside LeBron (which indicates he should flourish with T-Mac as well). He also remained reliable in few games that LeBron was out. His stats don't quite indicate his value, but there is one valid knock on him though: he can't shoot the 3 well.

I think thats one of the biggest problems, no volume three shooters left in FA worth mentioning and thats our nagging weakness

But Banks is PG and Head is more of a SG. I think we need more than one backup PG and a starting SG. Banks should fill the backup PG role, while JL3 as 3rd string PG.

Regarding SG, if nothing else works, maybe get Wesley back for one more year?

    Ditto.

Thats why I wouldnt mention Fred Jones.

We need better shooters than Skip and Wesley. Probably one of the reasons why LH got so much PT last season. Well, that and all the injuries.

It got so desperate Luther Head was starting at SF for a couple games.

If and big IF, Sura is back, I anticipate him being 2nd in the PG rotation followed by JL III.

Meaning we'll need a perimeter defender with height and volume 3 shooter at SG.. oh yeah, that can start... sorry but Banks is not our man.

Can Tmac play SG full time? If he can do that, it can solve all kinds of problems. But his back...
