WOW, just listening to all these SCRUB names being thrown around makes my head hurt. NONE of the players mentioned in this thread will help the Rockets much if at all. They are all roster fillers. At this point why waste your money on that crap and get yourself in a financial bind with stupid like they always do. I don't understand what direction the Rockets are going in right now. They say they want to "win now", but have done nothing to improve the team enough to do so. Battier is an OK player, but not one to put your team "over the top". At least not our team. And it's funny how Dallas was looking to sign Mike James as a complimentary and depth player while we were looking at him as "the missing piece". LOL, shows the difference in the status of the franchises right now.... I just PRAY that there might be more involved in the Battier trade tomorrow. Lets just hope they suprise us there....
I know this sounds crazy, but what about moving T-Mac to the 4, and have Battier play the 3. Play a combination of Hayes/Novak/Howard for the rest of the minutes at the 4. Perhaps even trade Howard for a 1 or a 2. Sign Ariza, and have him back up Battier at the 3. Sign back Bogans, and bring over V-Span to backup the point. Essentially, our MLE would be split between Ariza and V-Span. Anyone else think T-Mac can play the 4?
Why would Seattle give up Watson when they tried so hard to get him back? Ridnour lets every PG get past him, Watson was a necessary acquisition despite his high salary. Collison isnt moving, Seattle still has too much faith in him... especially not for Juwan Howard.
Jared Jefferies is absolutely the first choice. Trevor Ariza is the exact second choice. If both could be signed with Rox, We'll have NBA champion's Front court. As for back court, V-Span is my first choice, although JVG does not like him. And we will get Lucas III after summer. That's enough.
I got flamed for even suggesting that Battier would start at the 4. I said TMac could guard 4s and ppl were ready to crucify me.
hmmmmm, 6'2 Marcus Banks is too short but 6'2 Mike James isn't. I think people are under-estimating Banks some what. I'm not saying he is as good as James, but could certainly fill that role. He is getting better at the 3, is a pesky defender and aggressive on offense. In 30 minutes per game with Minny, he averaged 5 assists, 12 points and over a steal a game. The Rockets could do a WHOLE lot worse. If they can land Banks with the TE, then they could sign Fred Jones or John Salmons (though looks as if Phoenix will grab him soon) and then another decent big man like Kelvin Cato, Melvin Ely or Loren Woods. Now, these players won't blow anyone away, but they fill the holes the Rockets have and provide a little depth.
your trade would work if: a) we could combine TEs with players [this has never been mentioned on the BBS before] b) the Wizards smoked dro with Mighty Mouse
a) yes it has been mentioned and who said it was being combined? two non-simultaneous trades... Howard and 08 2nd for Daniels, TE for Jared Jeffries as to avoid rivals Philly from picking him up. Now they have a post scorer to compliment their big 3 perimeter players. b) no but they can smoke crack with the mayor of DC.
weasley was an small 2 guard, but marcus has no defense near DW. dont expect Banks to guard any big two in league...
Marcus Banks can be good at times, but he's inconsistent. If I had to choose though, it would be Banks. What ever happened to Fred Jones? Rockets could use his athleticism
A situation in which we got Marcus Banks for S&T and then picked up Jared Jeffries for the MLE wouldn't entirely be a disaster. We still need size at the 2 though, and I think that's why they're going after Ariza. If we are indeed going to get Ariza, forget about Jeffries. They're not going to pick up a backup center at the expense of a backup point guard.
You think Reggie Evans is worthless? He's a solid post rebounder and is a solid enforcer in the post. On top of that, they took on Watson's $24 Mill over the next 4 years... if people thought Mike James was asking too much, what do you call Watson's contract for a career backup? By 2008 Seatte will be paying a quarter of their cap space on just two fringer starters at the PG position... thats sacrifice, buddy.
Well then, I would love to read who you think the Rockets could acquire by the available means who could come in a really contribute playing backup minutes at the point. I'm not over-estimating anything. I only posted his numbers and what he brings to the table.
That's some confidence you have in a front office and GM that have made some horrendous personnel decisions over the last decade.
Hahaha...exactly. Let's see, the Rockets don't want anyone too young or too old (we already have enough of those). And they have to be JVG type of players. We don't want to overpay for free agents (Moneyball Morey) but we've got nothing outside of Yao or T-mac that other teams want.
Yeah, he's athletic and he can defend better than anyone we have in our current backcourt.. which isnt saying much. He's very disruptive, at least on the defensive end of the floor.
Watson is good enough to be a starter. He's just beginning to roll now. Too bad Evans can't stay avoid the fouls to stay on the floor. Maybe he should stop playing dirty once in a while. He's junk.
