Because he had a very solid half season with Minnesota and he is only 24 and still improving.

Obviously the WIN NOW is nothing but a lie!!! If this is so are we going to go for the Rebuild NOW. if so we should start by trading Tracy Mc Grady, because he isnt going to last out long enough for the Rockets to get to a Championship level. We need draft picks for next season and the season after. Of course it goes without saying that JVG must go right away as he is no good at building a championship team . The Rockets are out of it for several years- fans be ready for it, with our present Management and Coach that's the way it's going to be!
Les get ready for the Rockets to be devalued, especially when China takes Yao Ming away from the Rockets after you havent built a decent team around him in four years!! :p   :D

We are not under the cap but we have two trade exception and the MLE. We can also sign players using the vet minimum.

Alright, I'm going to quit sulking for a moment. None of these guys are difference makers. The only way for Rockets management to redeem themselves is to get a couple of these young guys that have potential to be difference makers. JR Smith, Jared Jeffries, Marcus Banks, Ariza and maybe Scola fit that bill.

We arent but they are cheap players.... we can split MLE for 2 and use a TE for another and get another with our 1.7 Exception(J.R. Smith) if theyre willing.

I think Ariza has the most star potential of any of the cheaper FAs we could land. He doesn't particularly fit a need, but ...

The problem is that we have serious holes at the 1, 2, and 4 positions, yet there really aren't many, if any, FAs that address those needs with certainty.

With the way we've butchered this offseason, I figure we should be signing the BPA, as long as he's versitile. Ariza can play up to 3 positions depending on the matchup. He's only 21, and he's already a solid rotational player. His defense is excellent, and his ceiling is extreemly high.

If we are going to be spending money, let's spend it wisely, and lock up this young guy to a reasonable contract.

    Hunch:

Daryl Morey will do his best to moneyball his way out of this mess.

Reason: Rockets got probably the most moneyball friendly available guy in the universe when they traded for Shane Battier, and immediately targeted the next best moneyballer(for the MLE at least) in Mike James.

    Likely moves include:

a)Signing cheat players with good moneyball stats (or at least high moneyball potential).

b)Trading Juwan Howard for another apparent "bad contract" but for a more moneyball friendly player.

Banks is really the only available free agent that I could see stepping in next season and becoming a 3rd option type of player that can create his own shot off the dribble. He’s an efficient shooter (shot for a high% last season, had a fg% over 50% in his four years in college), very quick defensively and offensively, and can break down the defense much better than any guard we currently have.

I’ve gotta think the Rockets have something up their sleeve. Some diamond in the rough that’s off everybody’s radar.

I'd be thrilled with Fred Jones, but since he's an RFA and Peja's gone... :(
Kareem Rush could probably be had on the cheap.

Banks and Aziza will be the people we get. Both have "upside".

    good thread.

jared jefferies would interest me, the only thing is he is battier light. the other guy I really like is deshawn stevenson. he's a little short, but he is very athletic, and orlando had success running him at the three in their small lineup. also I like ariza, he brings the athleticism, don't know too much about his shot though.

marcus banks is too short for use to play him at 2...he has to come off the bench and take the role that mike james took in 2004-2005 when we traded it for him...he came in and provided the spark....ariza will not get any minutes here as long as jvg is the coac of the rox...he wont play him....trading juwon would be the biggest relieve for rox this offseason...and picking up someone that just has to rebound the ball at 4...and hope they dont overpay guy like wilcox, who wants 10 mil. a season for 16/7 stat..that is horrible...shane cannot start at four..people starting him at 4 and t-mac at three...that wont work...he cannot guard 4's in the west...yes he spred the offense but what about when playing Duncan, KG, Gasol, Dirk....it just wont work....

If you think that's bad, you are going to be extremely disappointed.

Do you think Seattle would do a trade like this if Wilcox bolts

Huwan Howard and Luthur Head and a future pick if needed for Nick Collison and Earl Wtson. Then with the MLE we can sign guys like John Salmons and Rasual Butler. With the Exception sign Lorenzen Wright. Then if possible get Smith with a small exception
    Lineup

    PG-Alston-Watson-Lucas
    SG-Battier-Salmons-Smith
    SF-McGrady-Butler-Novak
    PF-Collison-Wright-Hayes
    C- Yao- Mutumbo- Wright

    You got a better idea?

Theyre all system players. We get a big PG who can slash and defend in Daniels, get our perimeter defender in Buckner, a wirey PF that started for the Wizards and will add some much needed depth in Jeffries, a post enforcer in Elson and we unload Howard's contract.

If your problem is height... would a lineup of Daniels, McGrady, Battier, Jeffries and Yao interest you? If your concern is perimeter shooting... what about Head, McGrady, Novak and Battier next to Yao? Speed... JLIII, Daniels, TMac, Battier and Elson. I see alot of versatility with this line and giving up JHO, the TE and MLE is not much of a sacrifice.

why would they take juwan ridiculous contract to give up on young cheap PF....they can use NIck to back up wilcox....i think he will accept 8 million from them in the end...Earl would be good addition to rox
