Even I would like to see Quin Snyder there (because he has experienced both side of basketball mentality), I would love to see Sam Cassell coaching Rox. From the very first moment I liked him when he was playing as rookie, a hard nosed lovely guy, never surrenders. A real winner.
I agreed with the comment. I don’t care about wins at this point. But I don’t think any rational person can claim they’ve seen progress.
Overthinking it. This team wants to be bad, idk why y’all don’t get that. Do you know why we got Jalen and Jabari? Bc we were bad!!! Would you rather have drafted Tre Mann and Jeremy Sochan?! We need a top pick again next draft, like really bad
I have zero confidence that Silas could take either of the top two available players (Wemby or Scoot) and put a winning product on the court. At first, I was reluctant to criticize since the post-Harden roster was so mismatched and broken. And we had quality NBA players sitting on the bench but not playing, which created an unhealthy culture. We're almost past that, though Gordon's lingering presence isn't helping. I'm sure Silas is saying to Stone, "Well, when you finally give me the right players and get rid of this extra baggage, you'll see that we'll start winning. But you got to get me the players." But I'm unconvinced that Silas has the basketball chops to build a working system on offense and defense to win. He can coddle personalities with the best of them. And he seems to be okay at helping guys like each other. But that's it. Coaches can impart toughness and grit. Our guys seem to think playing tough means pushing people around. Coaches create game plans that play into team strengths and expose others' weaknesses. Other teams are glad to see us on the schedule because they can rout us if they host one film session and keep any professional focus. They know we can't do what it takes to win consistently. Orlando would have won by twenty, but they didn't take us seriously at first, and we got an early lead. The only hope is for our players to rally together, call a players-only meeting, and come to the coaches and front office with the changes they want to see in the offensive and defensive schemes. They are the ones who will have to generate new ideas for breaking a zone, or running a break, or getting out of the doldrums when our outside shots aren't falling. They need to suggest new coverages we could explore on defense rather than sag and recover late. They need to suggest the player rotations they'd like to see (and that will mean some of them will sit unless there's an injury to create more coherence and flow). And if they don't get the answers they want from the coaches, then it's time to tell the media and front office. We're waiting on you, Jalen Green. Be a franchise leader.
You may see me as irrational but I've seen progress from week one. It's the politics of playing Eric Gordon at 6'3" at SF to build up trade value. It's the politics of playing Nix because he was a highschool standout and Stone claiming he is lottery material.....trying to generate trade value. It's the politics of playing Mathews as a SF to generate trade value. If KPj was drafted last year, people would have more patience with him as they would first two years of Suggs, Cade Cunningham, SGA, D Fox, Cole Anthony, TyTy, Ivey, Fultz and others just learning the position at its highest level. But you and others may be confusing KPj's first two seasons as KPj playing PG instead of Garland/Sexton/Wall... But that's like confusing a receiver in football as a quarterback. Totally different positions. I said about two weeks ago a team used a gimmick zone a majority of the game to beat us because they couldn't match our athleticism.....and it was a high ranked team. Rockets were shooting well at the time. Now Orlando, used a zone last night and went from being blown out to actually winning. Well the Rockets have been slumping as many of the players have hit a fatigue wall......Orlando probably went into the evening thinking zone defense because we have been shooting so bad as a team.....but Silas skipped the practice and shoot-a-around and KPj, Green and Kenyon looked fresher. This team got a chance to practice against a zone defense last night. They adapted by sending a player to the free throw line and operating the offense from there. The team will be better from it......for next season. I'm looking at all aspects of the players and the game......while you may be too focused on the negatives. Many of the youth's today want instant gratification. Fast food, microwaveable, instant food......don't have time to wait. We don't want a 76ers 7 year, "Trust the Process." Yeah but we are talking instead of this 3rd season being a breakout year, a 4th season is going to be the one. Still ahead of others rebuild. See Sacramento rebuild dated back some 20 years ago. We have a bunch of 19 to 22 year old kids.
Good post. Several possessions of last night's third quarter did look like a practice session as we butted heads against that half-hearted Orlando zone. And it felt to me that Silas thought it was more important to practice than maintain rotations that he's been so committed to all season. The big development, the move from kids to professionals, is when the players step up and start pushing back. They have to show initiative and seek basketball answers in the film room and pregame. They have to say what they think about the rotations and style of play. They have to do more than flap their arms in frustration and police each other. Our coaching staff doesn't know what to do when players don't act like pros. They haven't coached college-aged players, and they are trying to treat them like professionals. It's all hit or miss (mostly miss).
Mr. Jalen Green doesn’t have the experience in life to anything other than what he is doing currently. Remember how young he is then subtract the Covid epidemic and you get maybe a senior in high school. Silas is all he has personally witnessed. His G league time was just a very shortened season. Green is not going to do anything because he doesn’t know how. Silas’s job has been so hard because building from the ground (high school level) not even a solid foundation (collegiate or semiprofessional). If Green is our only hope for change he don’t have much hope. It’s not Green’s fault either.
My thought Eric Gordon needs to be the leader or leave. He needs to call players only meetings and step on some toes. Maybe they will step back on his. This needs to happen. (Broken feet) if it gets to crazy just cut Gordon. That opens up playing time anyway. only good can happen from an EGo meeting
If Gordon has any aspirations toward coaching, or if he loves the game, he should step into this void. I recognize how young and inexperienced Green is. But to be a 1A franchise player, you have to show leadership. Maybe he can call Gordon and together they can make something happen. If you get on the phone with KPJ about all you get is plans to go out for drinks.
Just out of curiosity, do 3 question marks indicate a bigger, more cosmic question? Or is your keyboard stuck???????
All these fire Silas threads miss the point of the rebuild entirely. They want 3 top 5 picks to surround with vets over the next few years. It’s a solid 5 year plan.
I kinda wish they'd have found a way to get Sochan .... because he can actually run the point as a forward. Tari was my guy pre draft and I'm thrilled they got him, but I'd love to have both of them.
