I understand why the Rockets are under the Jazz. I think it's because no one knows how this team will do with all of the new additions and how they will perform under new coach Adelman. But personally.. Utah doesn't scare us at all. We will learn from our mistakes and Luther will learn to make a shot in the playoffs next season (and we don't have to worry about Juwan bricking shots anymore either).
Off season rankings are pointless. There is absolutely no way to prove one team is better than another except on the court. There were not many an this board that thought the Jazz were better or had more talent than us going into last season. Even after the Jazz started the season out scorching hot no one here thought they were better or more talented but the Jazz proved us wrong. I don't want anything given to the Rockets. It is so much sweeter to prove it on the court.
this sounds all too familiar. if i remember correctly, 99% of this board claimed we'd beat the jazz and advance to the western conference finals. LOL @ that.
Absolutely!!! The teams will only get ranked based on what they did on the court at the end. Also, the championship series are played and won on the court as well. At this time, the sportswriters are only analyzing the teams and making predictions based mostly on the talent they have. For the Rockets, how they do next season will depend largely on how well the new players will mesh together (team chemistry), how well they will do under RA's motion offense, but most of all, will most of the players stay healthy, especially key players like Yao and T-Mac. When the regular season starts, the teams will ALL start 0-0.
They have a better coach, better PG and better PF than we do. They have a more veteran, solid bench, and their defensive play will be ahead of ours this year. There's no reason not to think they're not better. We added depth, leadership and talent, sure, but it's all a big bubble of uncertainty as to how everything will fit.
You could have a solid point here, but as a person who really hates anything Jazz, I will always say the Rockets are better Btw, How did you get your status like that???????
We have a better centre and shooting guard then them. We just 'evened' ourselves on the coaching part. If Mike James and Bonzi Wells are disciplined and motivated (I see Francis as a starter), then our bench is as deep, if not deeper then theirs. Ultimately, I'd rather be UNDERESTIMATED than OVERESTIMATED
but...they beat us by like 5 points in a game 7. If we had anyone that could make a shot in game 7 (brooks? francis? james? scola?) we would have won it..easily. We lost to ourselves, not the Utah Jazz...
The Rockets should be the fourth or third if the rank is based on the players on the team. We are better than the Jazz.
On paper our talent level should bump us up at least one spot, if not 2 or 3. But the truth is we have no idea how it will look on the court. A few years ago everyone (not just many on this board, but the media too) thought we were WC final contenders when we got Swift and Anderson. I think the Mavs should've dropped a spot. They got taken out in the first round and clearly the Spurs/Suns was a battle of the 2 best teams in the league. I can't complain about the list. The truth is most preseason predictions rarely take any chances, they usually mirror exactly how the last season ended. And that goes for most sports.
In all honesty, you think Adelman is in Sloan's class as a coach? So, if both were available, you'd say "Eh, either one since they're both the same?" I'm not saying Sloan is light years ahead of Adelman, but he's a better coach, at least IMO. His teams play better defense than Adelman's, and Sloan's teams execute better than anybody's in the league. It's also my belief that Sloan can get more out of his players than Adelman.
Agree to disagree. It's my opinion that, while the Rockets were more talented on paper than the Jazz, Utah was undoubtedly the better TEAM. And to say "well, if anyone could make a shot we would have won" is a bail out excuse. A lot of teams end up saying that when their seasons end. What that means, point blank, is one team executed better than the other. And that comes down to discipline and coaching, which the Jazz outclassed the Rockets in during last season's playoffs.
Adelman has a better win record than Sloan. He will have more wins than Sloan this year. The opposing teams FG% is lower with Adelman than Sloan. Offensive and Defensive efficiency is higher with Adelman. Utah will have a worse head to head record against Houston.
If it's based on depth and talent were hands down the deepest team in the league. 1:Spurs 2:Rockets 3:Mavs 4:Suns 5enver 6:Hornets 7:Jazz 8:Warriors 9:Memphis 10ortland 11:Lakers 12:Wolves 13:Sonics 14:Clippers(brand out for the whole season)
If you go by the facts and record, Adelman is much better coach. he's kings have pretty much owned the jazz and sloan. it would certianly be foolhardy to call Coach A bad defensive coach. the kings in 02 led the league in least Field goals allowed.
You know we gets no love from the media outside of Houston.. we're just going to have to prove it to them when the season starts!!
