Westboro's troll logic is impeccable. "A bench player for a sports team in Washington is gay. Let's go bother sports teams he's never played for 1,500 miles away about it". "The cashier at a Subway in Houston was a jerk. I'm going to go set fire to a Jimmy John's in Idaho!"
There's a difference between fundamentalists and Westboro. Westboro is not a fundamentalist church, they are a hate cult. Nothing more.
Sometimes I wonder if WBC believes what they say or are just trolling to push the limits of the 1st Amendment. Phelps and his entire family are/were civil rights attorneys. It's really strange. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps#Civil_rights_cases
As far as the OP goes I think we can agree there isn't much D&D to be done here. We all agree these people are idiots.
It's a peaceful protest by a small, marginalized group of private citizens and gay rights are younger than disco, unfortunately I think it's precisely what the founders meant to protect.
Woohoo!!!! Freedom of Speech. My advice to them, understand that there are threats out there that are illegal.
I didn't know that about them. I've argued before that even though they are hateful that they should be allowed to protest, on public property, under the First Amendment but if filing lawsuits is how they stay in business that seems more reason to allow them to. If they have no basis to sue then their income dries up. Or they become ambulance chasers, annoying but not going to attract the same attention as they do now. Or we could do that.
Yeah these guys are just trolling for attention. Nobody takes them seriously. They only thing that I draw the line at is when they show up to funerals. I don't know if i would be able to hold back popping some of those people in the face.
I wonder if we'll get a glimpse of them on TNT. Probably, TNT will want to make sure they get no coverage, but they usually do shots of the outside of the arena. Anyone know if there will be counter-protesters? I know teamsters, hell's angels, and other groups have shown up en masse in the past to block the WBC.
No, real life is not a message board, and bigots can have law degrees. Every one knows about Fred's civil rights work decades ago, just like Jim Jones's it doesn't make him any less repellent or destructive.
I really hope this was intentionally funny -- if so: epically genius. If not, still funny, but epically stupid.
Am I the only who thinks that these guys are not serious and are just trying to garner media attention?
You are too stupid for words. A recent poll shows that roughly 70% of the country identify themselves as Christian. Roughly 56% of the country supports gay marriage. Just those numbers alone indicate a significant number of Christians not only are not bigoted against homosexuals, but that they support their right to marry. This doesn't even consider the Christians who oppose gay marriage but still disagree with these clowns. You should really engage your brain before you start typing.
