As opposed to just winning one game with Yao and the player responsible for that single victory is Steve.
I wouldn't have traded the Yao pick for anything. The guy is going to be the most dominant center in the league in a few years, imagine a combo of Tim Duncan and Shaq in one person. Yao has that capability, if he fullfills that potential only time will tell.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? With the nature of this board everyone would be pissed that we missed out on YAO. If there is one thing I have realized its that the glass is always half empty for the majority of clutchfans posters. Unless we won a championship with the proposed team above everyone would be imagining the possibility of drafting YAO and would think that his addition would make us championship contenders. (Which it will in a few years) But dont kid yourself and say that the board would be overflowing with optimism.
Steve's lovers are shameless. Steve was good in that game (27 pts, 9 reb, 7 assts were great but 7-16 FG was so so), but the whole team was responsible for that win. How about Cat with 21 pts? JJ with 10 rebs, 5 assts. How about Cato with 8 rebs. MoT 6-10 FG for 16 pts. What about Yao with 42 mins, 9-13 FG, 18 pts and 10 rebs? (But the best thing was probably the 3 total TOs for the whole team, minus Cat and Steve) Your Franchise will be gone soon ... ( I hope) ... maybe you will leave with him?
While we are speculating, would Rudy still be our coach if this trade went down? And would CD still be the GM?
What's so funny dumbass? Yao has the potential to be GREAT, and only an idiot would think not. Thank God MORONS like you don't run the Rox or else the Rox wouldn't be able to compete in a high school league with the type trades you come up with. Peace.
If yao were a clipper, very likely Yao would join the Lakers after his rookie contract. Kobe + Yao + role player would beat the Rox 9 out of 10. Rox might be a perennial playoff team but no chance to contend.
And Clippers ended up with Andre Miller Corey Maggette Quentin Richardson Elton Brand Yao Ming So both teams are happy right now.
And how about dealing with all of the publicity? Yao drew media attention similar to Lebron this season. Garnett didn't have to deal with that. How about the pressure? Representing a whole country? Having to prove to everybody that you weren't some Shawn Bradleyish freak? That's orders of magnitude more than the pressure that was on Garnett. How about adapting to the physical play? The physical nature of the NBA game is a radical change from the CBA. Yao was going againt very big physical guys every night at the center spot. Minnesota played Garnett as a SF, so that he wouldn't be at a physical disadvantage. Now tack on to that learning a new language, adapting to a new country and a foreign lifestyle and it's not even close.
well, at the very least there has not been one post calling steve a punk or saying yao has no balls...the point of what i was getting at is that in getting yao we went against everything that we had to that point. nobody on this squad made the nba playing a walk the ball up the floor, dump it inside and watch. while i personally would have enjoyed watching a team like the one i mentioned play, i dont deny that yao probably has a ceiling high enough not to have done that deal. however, i do worry that he will not reach that ceiling and for that reason i posted this. yao has all the tools to be a very dominant center, except stamina. name a guy that was a true difference maker that played less than yao ming? even better, name one player whose conditioning improved as he got older (who wasn't a complete fatbody). i know that he has to play year round, but as soon as somebody states the obvious that he needs to rest that person is chided for not wanting yao to represent his country. i know that many here love yao, but to not at the very least be concerned about his lack of wind and the repurcussions of that problem is quite the oversight.
We've been through this b4 about Amare, cry me a river. He stayed out of jail, whoop dee damn do. There are countless others from the projects who manage to stay out of jail and actually goto high school based on their grades and even finishing college. But, we wouldnt wanna focus on them would we? The media is too willing to sell the story of a successful black athlete instead of a successful black businessman who actually had to goto school. Cry me a river man, cry me a frigging river.
