That's not his point. He has a point. And if anything, it just shows how sweet it is to get the 9 games after Yao's injury. I don't agree, however, that we are not a contender without Yao. We have two things: 1. Defense. This is going to help us beat some pretty good teams in the playoffs. 2. Adelman's offense. He has proven that he doesn't need a dominant big man down low to have a good offense. Apart from that, this year's West is wild. Anybody can beat anybody in any round. So don't count us out yet. And I don't need to "prepare" for a letdown because even if we can't get past the 1st round, I will still be damn proud of this team. GO ROCKETS!!!
your right 20-0 team we are a 21-0 team man your rocket fanhood sucks go move to dallas and make this thread on their board.
I totally don't agree with this thread but maybe you should know someone before making a statement like that. durvasa's a good member of the board.
Would we be like the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS if we lose in the 1st rd? or even the 2nd rd Noone would care about the streaks just like the 18-1 NE PATRIOTS
This is why the Rockets have the ability to win a series against 6 of the other 8 teams playin for the postseason(sorry Portland) and might be able to pull it off against the other 2.
^^^it was harsh but ehh... even if i knew him i'd tell him move to dallas and wear a jason terry jersey like all the other mavs fans. pooi tell my freinds that all the time when they say something so degrading about the rockets. why a down play your own team and call it "truth" it when it isn't the truth the numbers don't lie 21 in a roll means you are a 21 in a roll team doesn't ? come on were on the same status as Jerry West's Lakers and Kareem's Bucks let reality sit in before you go on making a thread on this board going on and on about how we don't have the big guy and doom and gloom we cant go nowhere this is fools gold.. so what golden state was fools gold and look what it did to their fan base IT TRIPLED this is good for the franchise the city of houston and our team.. i dont care if we haven't beaten the elite teams in our streak all of those are excuses for fans whom just can't appreciate what our team gives us. look at this Tue, Nov 13 @ Memphis L 99-105 Wed, Nov 14 LA Lakers L 90-93 Fri, Nov 16 @ San Antonio L 84-90 Sat, Nov 17 Phoenix L 105-115 Wed, Nov 21 Dallas L 94-100 Fri, Nov 23 @ Miami L 91-98 6-7 the rockets were at this time if i remember 11th spot in the west Tue, Jan 29 Golden State W 111-107 Fri, Feb 1 @ Indiana W 106-103 Sat, Feb 2 @ Milwaukee W 91-83 Mon, Feb 4 @ Minnesota W 92-86 Thu, Feb 7 Cleveland W 92-77 Sat, Feb 9 Atlanta W 108-89 Mon, Feb 11 Portland W 95-83 Wed, Feb 13 Sacramento W 89-87 Tue, Feb 19 @ Cleveland W 93-85 Thu, Feb 21 Miami W 112-100 Fri, Feb 22 @ New Orleans W 100-80 Sun, Feb 24 Chicago W 110-97 Tue, Feb 26 Washington W 94-69 Fri, Feb 29 Memphis W 116-95 Sun, Mar 2 Denver W 103-89 Wed, Mar 5 Indiana W 117-99 Thu, Mar 6 @ Dallas W 113-98 Sat, Mar 8 New Orleans W 106-96 Mon, Mar 10 New Jersey W 91-73 Wed, Mar 12 @ Atlanta W 83-75 Fri, Mar 14 Charlotte W 89-80 without yao the rockets found a way to win. you have to give kudos to this rocket's team now we are 45-20 and tied for number 1 in the west "modest streak" is one of the worst ways to put it for rockets fans. if you watch the games before this whole streak you would have remembered that a couple of months ago theses games weren't winnable and the rockets found a way to lose. now that we beat the teams we are suppose to beat everyone is not satisfied. be happy and worry in the end of april till that time enjoy the ride!
your an idiot if you actually think the patriots didn't do something special they freaking won 18 in a roll in a league that is injury prone.. your probably a colts fan or a person that isn't a fan just a wannabe sports analysis that thinks of Bold statements as if you were on PTI or around the HORN.. learn to appreciate what the rockets streak means to the city and to the organization and lay off the ESPN.com browsing and make your own opinions being a fan not a sports analysis
all im going to say is i think it would be wise for us not to get our hopes too high come playoff time. i think this streak and possibly a higher seeding are going to put some very unrealistic expectations on this team. we are just on such a high right now i know many of us may not realize it, but if were to even get out of the first round that would be quite the accomplishment for a team playing with only 1 star on it, in the western conference no less. outside of mutumbo, who is very old obviously, we are very small up front as im sure you all can see. i know we have some scrappy guys, but in playoff basketball, you can bet the other teams are going to be scrapping just as hard, and that is when talent is going to come into play. we have 1 star and a bunch of solid role players and i have strong doubts it will not be enough to advance. we are going to have to play above our heads to make any noise, and that is scary when you consider how much we will be depending on two rookies, a 41 year old center, and rafer alston. damn i would be so sad if we don't advance though, and i just know t-mac would get KILLED by the media AGAIN even though yao is out. its so unfair
This thread has nothing to do with the accomplishment of winning 20+ games in a row. It's a spectacular, historic feat and that goes without saying. Credit for that run goes to the guys currently playing, along with Yao. This issue is what our expectations should be the rest of the way. If the guys we currently have won 20+ games in a row on their own, then it would make sense to have very, very lofty expectations. But, the reality is that is not what happened. And, accordingly, we should temper our expectations. That doesn't imply we should give less credit to what's been accomplished or enjoy the wins any less. Anyone who thinks that is what this thread is about is just misinterpreting the words.
Then what is it about? "hey guys we're doing great but dont get your hopes up, we're not going to make it!". Thats what it sounds like to me. Your on a Rockets fan board telling people they shouldn't be too excited about whats going on which is NBA history!!!!! if thats not what ur sayin then please clarify
If the Rockets are playing for low expectations, they aren't going anywhere. If the Rockets are playing for the trophy, they have a chance. A player's attitude and expectations can lose the game, if they expect to lose. When a player expects to win, they'll fight to the last minute. There is still a chance.
IMO that's cool if you meant it that way; some people would say the same and it would be meant differently... As for an opinion on this thread's topic (at least how most have interpreted the topic), we are pretty in agreement.
The reality is that the 90% of this team was part of the win streak before Yao went down and and some ways got even stronger. We will have an incredible challenge against teams with 2 large bodies, but this team (w/o Yao) has already whupped several top teams and proven themselves worthy of high expectations. It's obviously in your nature to prepare yourself in a major way for dissappointments. I am one who prefers to take a ride on positive energy, high expectations, hope, and dreams and see where it leads. It doesn't always lead to the promised land, in fact more often not. But those traits will increase the likelihood of arriving there. And if nothing else, I think you'll have more fun along the way. jmho
This is correct. I am enjoying this brief period in time as a fan. This is very special. Like the run in Jan '95 that T-Mac and Sura ( and Jon Barry and David Wesley for a very brief time) provided us with- winning and competitve ball. I realize that success as fleeting-but how cool was that to be competitve at a very high level! We beat Dallas twice at home to open the series and shocked all the hard core fans like us. This streak is what it is- pure joy for the fan!!!! We may have mixed success in the playoffs- but I am happy and having fun!!!! Anything can happen- recall that special time in '95- Hakeem was the only All Star on that team-many doubted us then. Many doubt us now
