That was the worst game I ever saw...mainly because it was THAT CLOSE to being the best game I ever saw. The first half was just pitiful...and very painful to watch. My head was telling me to turn it off at that point but my heart made me continue to watch. The near comeback was miraculous...but the fact that they came up short in the end prevents it from overshadowing that excruciating first half. There is no excuse for the way they were playing.
It was a good comeback, but we lost. This isn't and shouldn't be a team looking for "moral" victories. We lost because we didn't play hard in the first half. It was good that the team, especially Glen Rice showed they had a pulse, but we walked through the first half and it cost us. When Philly was without Iverson and McKie, they were never really blown out, they competed every posession which is what this team has to learn to do. Somewhere this team thinks they are ready for the big dogs because they won 45 games last yr, but in this league, you're not ready until you start beating these kind of teams. Unlike the Spurs which may shoot its fair share of jumpers, if we play like that, Kobe and Shaq will murder us thursday.
If not for a missed Stevie Francis dunk and 3 missed FT's, this game would have turned out much differently. I can't believe that they played so horribly. I mean iso's for KT for the entire first half? WTF!? I had an opportunity to switch back and forth between the SAC vs. TOR game (btw, glad we got rid of Dream, even though he is the reason I started to watch basketball) and you can see the difference in SAC offense vs. ours. Four guys standing around the perimeter w/ no movement at all, while SAN falls back into a zone. C'mon, they have 2 7'0 footers guarding an area. Of course we are only going to score 9 points in a quarter! Why doesn't our team set picks!? Double picks? Why did it take a 25 point blow out before our guys gave a damn and decided to pass the ball to the open man? The second half was remarkable. A work of art....simply beautiful. But I am sooooo freakin' disappointed. Any team that can do what the Rockets did after the half time break, should not have been placed in a 21 point hole! Well just had to vent. I just had to. Go Rockets! Play up to your abilities, please, or it will be a long, torturous season.
I'm exceptionally thankful that I didnt get outta school till the end of the 3rd. Judging by all the posts Im reading here, I would have been one angry, sulking man if I had been home watching that travesty of a first half. This team had better get their sh*t straight quick and play like they did in the 3rd and 4th last night or its gonna be a miserable season to be a Rox fan(atic). Btw, any news on when Cat will be back? and do any of yall think that we would have been that bad if he had been in the game? Who started in his place and how did they do? As I said, I missed getting to watch all but the last 1:30 of the game .
