Actually this is what I expect from a team at the end of the season when the coach has been extremely negative the entire season. Our team has ZERO IDEA what they are doing out there, and that starts with the coach. The players still don't have any idea what they are supposed to be doing which is why our offense has been 1-on-1 all season, and lately our defense has turned into 1-on-1 defense with no support(or in the case of MoT 1-on-0 defense)

I look at the Phoenix game when we were on the tail end of our last winning streak and JVG felt the need to point out to them that, If you lose this one it could snowball into 9 or 10 in a row and you are out of the playoffs ... Why be negative when things are going good .. if they had lost maybe say something after the game, but why say it before hand. He told the team that he didnt have confidence in them, thus they lost confidence in themselves.

I'm not saying its all JVG fault as the players should be professionals, but knowing that many of our players are not, JVG's negativity all season has not helped.

Sorry and thanks for letting me rant on ... It's definitely a time to vent.

If management would let me, I would love to go into the locker room before the rest of their games and call all the players out, yell and scream at them, call them gutless and heartless and have them beat the hell out of me. Then I would go take my seat in the arena and cheer rediculously for them.

you're right RMJ, I guess the tough New York attitude just doesn't cut it down in Houston. I remember when halfway through the season, when we were playing better than decent, my dad and I were talking long distance about the Rockets, and he said "I don't know if I like Van Gundy. He's never happy."I think he was onto something: so much negativity over a season will dampen your morale, I guess that goes for this message board as well.

how do you stay positive as a fan when you're team is literally crumbling before your very eyes?

"Our coach is very intense and nobody really wants to do wrong and that's where you get a lot of mistakes,'' Rockets guard Steve Francis said. ``Sometimes for guys who don't play 40 minutes they're playing a little tentative. For us, as starters, it's important that we at least come out and try to set the tone.''

``We're not playing to win,'' said Houston's Cuttino Mobley, who added 11 points. ``We're playing not to lose to save our spot. I don't know what it is: enthusiasm, urgency, a will to win or not to win.''

Nine years removed from their last NBA championship, the Rockets couldn't muster the effort to beat a team that has missed the playoffs the past 10 years.

``When we start playing better, we'll get better results,'' said Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy. ``Nothing is good enough right now.''

such blanket statements by sf3, cat and jvg.

    f-ing DO something about it

here ye here ye batman jones, you have finally come around. I agree with everything you just said, your words fully reflect my sentiment. The only difference is, i DONT care already, the only reason iam here and iam still somewhat of a fan is the hope of a blow up of the team in teh offseason, to replace these losers with professionals. As for the group we have right now? they could rot in hell for all i care.

Whoa, Nellie. We're not in agreement on anything. I'm still a fan. I just want them to play harder.

The problem is when you build around a guy and that guy doesn't get it done, you lose. When we were built around Dream, if Dream only had 15 and 8, the Rockets would lose 99% of the time.

This team has made an even more concerted effort to begin the offense with Yao and to let him carry them.

    He's not getting it done.

    Period.

If the Rockets don't make the playoffs, the blame lies FIRMLY and SQUARELY on Yao.

The only gutless people are Rockets fans.

This is a lil harsh and uncalled for.

I sure hope you root for a different team next season and spare us all your hate.

Personally, I like the whole "win as a team and lose as a team" train of thought...

Well on the bright side, if we don't make the playoffs, the Francis fans can chalk up another winning season that the Franchise led us to, making it 3 out of 5.

LOL. Since when is this team built around Yao?

Yao has his own issues. The last post he made on his bbs was that he was very worried about his energy level during the last stretch of games. It definitely showed in his play. However, this is not an excuse for Yao. But the bottomline is that although Yao is not playing at his best right now, he is still playing decent.

Why our teams have no heart?

Can it be that most of the players on the team know that they will not be playing for the Rockets next season?

Shame on those terrible fans that actually root for players on their team. How dumb of them.

You mean we should build around a big man that guarentees more than 15 and 8 in each and every game? Find me a guy that does that.

Shame on those terrible fans that actually root for teams to play smart basketball and are tired of underachievers. How dumb of them.

I knew as soon as I did that post that you would respond.:p

What is wrong with what I said, pgabriel?? It is a true statement, is it not?

Manny, I think his objection is that you're supposed to be a Rockets fan, but certainly don't sound like one.

But, I'm posting about excuses. Why are the Rockets always accused of making excuses? They don't. All the quotes in the paper today were that they didn't come with enough intensity, that they played tight, they were afraid to lose, etc. This is self-condemnation, not excuses. No one said anything about being tired.

I'd have to agree with Charles Barkley on TNT Tuesday night. He said its no secret that if you're bringing in 40 year old guys like Oakley and Jackson, you're looking for leadership. Somebody has to take control of this damn team. I know that they're tired and have had alot of back to backs as of late, but everyone plays 82 games. This is Steves fifth year and Cat's sixth. They need to step it up and take care of business. I can't remember that last time that the rockets ran someone out of the gym. Too many close games. Yao needs to hold on to the damn ball also. (although hes fouled on most fu%*king plays! We have a 1/2 game lead with 4 left. We play the Jazz and Nuggets. We just HAVE to take care of business because again like Sir Charles said, it'd be a travesty if the rockets didnt make the playoffs.

It goes deeper than that, Juan with him and me. Trust me on that one.

I just never have understood what is wrong with wanting to see a team play well and play smart.

I mean players come and go, but the team will always be there (unless they move).

If I only rooted for players, I would have gone on to root for another team once Hakeem left (I know this sounds hard to believe but it is the truth!;)), but I didn't because I follow the team, not just one or two players. And yes I am tough on them because I haven't seen a lot of growth or smart basketball in the last 5 years.

I used to be someone who looked forward to every game, even going to the trouble of buying league pass 2 seasons ago (that worked out great with the 28 win season, didn't it?), but the way these current players play, with the exception of a couple, it has desensitized me to a point of not caring anymore and that pisses me off that has happened.

Manny, no one expects you not to be upset, but you've already posted in another thread that you think its best they lose so they can make changes. Nothing justifies that.
