RT is great, all they do is give you an average based on all the reviews out there. Seems that the message boards are also loaded with some serious film lovers.
I used to work in radio promotions and we had to have contigency plans for everything. My boss (and then later me) would constantly go "Okay. What do we do if this happens? What do we do if that happens?" Then decide the liklihood of the "threat", the impact the threat would have and what action, if any, to take (based on the liklihood and severety of the threat). I still think in terms of "what do we do just in case XXX happens...." but now I generally get made fun of as being too paranoid...
Dude, no kidding. Here are the titles of the few "fresh" rated articles on the page: "Fantastic Four is a movie that could have been a lot better – but it could also have been a lot worse." "It’s not great but it’s not utter crap either." "Fantastic Four isn't even close to Sin City, Batman Begins or even Constantine, but it’s a relatively quick, vibrant, focused origin story." "Yes, it’s kinda stupid, but it’s basically fun." I can't believe those are actually supposed to be the good reviews. Not exactly glowing, are they?
I like this bad review.. How fascinating that a film about super-humans was made by a collection of sub-humans.
Ok, just got back from the real movie, and Marvel let us watch the whole thing this time. Ok in short. Bad acting, predictable, corny, poorly written BUT FUN. Movie was really predictable, you know what is going to happen almost all the time. Movie is also really fast paced, so any moment you stop and think about it, you roll your eyes. Alba, mr. fantastic and dr. doom are really bad actors. Doom was actually palatable in the beginning, but got much worse as he got more evil (fox decided to leave out character development for him). Although Alba (who shows a lot of skin) and reed richards guy are really horrible actors in the movie, he keeps the same facial expression the entire film. However, when you think about the real characters in the comic, they aren't the most expressive characters to begin with. mr fantastic's power is used in some funny ways in the film. Alba, not so much, but they try to get her naked often. Doom, well, just made him seem too lex luther, his costume was ridiculous, but never captured that unique mad evil that epitomizes DR. VICTOR VON DOOO0000M. whatashame. The Thing, i'm ambivalent about. Chiklis is good sometimes and bad other times, sometimes corny. sometimes the costume looks great, and other times, it looks like a costume, however, they did a good job allowing him to have facial expressions. Torch, while annoying, has some stupid scenes and tries really hard to be a teen hearthrob, actually does a good job playing his role. the effects covering him are reasonably exciting. although they really shove his character down your throat, I don't think theres a single instance where he acts out of character. overall, if you try not to think too hard, it can be a fun movie. It is for teenagers though, don't expect batman, think charlies angels + the incredibles. except the villian is even worse. lots of special effects, which went well. Because its an origin story, don't expect that much, however, the sequel should be much better. avi arad, ceo of marvel productions, said some interesting things, will divulge later.
The movie is down to 19% now on RottenTomatoes.com. It won't break Catwoman's record (9%), but it is in Dude, Where's My Car? (18%) territory.
Divulge now dammit. Avi has been a real prick lately. "Batman came and 'vent, you know." "Brett Ratner is a great director."
Just saw it a while ago...it was a good summer flick. It wasn't "fantastic", but it was a fun movie. Had some funny spots, loved the humor of Torch. Lots of one-liners. Doom wasn't as evil as he could've been. Jessica Alba in a bra and panties...that was nice.
Premiere pics of Alba in the "low-cut dress" with the "tight top." http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=premgal&id=1808403968 I went to look at the fresh ratings of Alba's movies on RT.com; they're just sad.
I was never planing on seeing this film, it looks like crap. And there are advertisements etc, all over the damn place.
Is this the "official" Fantastic 4 thread? My only real comment on the movie was....eh...It was pretty average as far as comic book movies go, but the dark comic book movies like Batman Begins, 1989 Batman, and Daredevil are more my taste. I know that if I could turn myself completely into fire an fly around everywhere or turn invisible, I sure as hell wouldn't be using those powers to save the world or anything...Oh yeah, and Jessica Alba is officially the hottest chick in movie history... Now, my big question is...what was up with the nosebleed that Jessica Alba had in the big fight scene with Dr. Doom?
Just saw it in a theatre full of screaming kids. Urgh. >>>SPOILERS<<<<<< Anyway, it was okay. Nothing spectacular, just a cut out of other action films. I hate any films that purposely set up sequels- the last scene was abosolutely pointless. Tell me they couldn't have put it at the start of the next film, or just left it out entirely! But Jessica Alba more than makes up for it. See it, but leave your brain at the door. Oh, and the bit about their emotions having an effect on their powers...zzzzzzz, booorriingggg and useless. It has no use.
I saw Fantastic Four last night, I thought it was a pretty good movie overall. I saw on tv somewhere that they have a deal for two more sequels so it has the potential to get a lot better. I kinda compared it to X-men. I thought the first movie was terrible but the second movie was great.
