I overheard Ms. Cubriel say backstage that she needed to get back home as soon as she could to fix her husband a sandwich. Texas Republican Party ED: Women Don't Need Equal Pay, They're Just Bad Negotiators! by: Katherine Haenschen Tue Mar 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM CDT The Executive Director of the Republican Party of Texas, Beth Cubriel, thinks that women wanting to get paid the same amount of money for the same day's work as a man have it all wrong. They just need to be better negotiators. Silly women! She told YNN's Capitol Tonight program, "Men are better negotiators. I would encourage women instead of pursuing the courts for action to become better negotiators." Maybe Cubriel can explain to us how negotiating can retroactively make up for decades of lost wages. AAAYIIIEEE!!! To paraphrase Madeleine Albright, "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women get equal pay." Last night, Abbott ally Cubriel appeared on YNN's Capitol Tonight program to explain the GOP's alternative to a Texas Lilly Ledbetter Act. Of course, the GOP is savvy enough to find a woman who will stand up and viciously defend a woman's right to be discriminated against. That's the worst part: they're just using this woman so that they can continue perpetuating economic injustice against all Texas women. Got it, ladies? You don't deserve equal pay on the merits, you just need to find out you're being discriminated against, then argue your way into equal pay. That is totally a sustainable solution that in no way privileges a certain class of women who can negotiate their wages or even find out they're being discriminated against and is way more efficient and effective than just paying workers the same amount for the same job regardless of their sex! So ladies, if you're being paid less, it's not because the system's rigged against you -- it's just that the dudes of Texas are better negotiators, sweetheart, don't worry your pretty little head about it and make your boss a sandwich, Ok? The suggestion is preposterous, and fails to address the actual terrible economic consequences for Texas women and families when a working woman is paid substantially less than her male counterpart. The gap for women of color is even bigger than that for white women, and for single mothers it can be the difference between remaining in poverty or finding a way to slowly move up the socio-economic ladder. Greg Abbott hasn't said if he would veto or sign an Equal Pay bill for Texas. As Attorney General, however, he has defended the right for employers to wage discriminate based on sex. If Beth Cubriel's comments are any indication of how Abbott really feels on the matter, it doesn't look good for Texas women if he's elected as our next Governor.
There's been a rash of these stories lately. Republican woman justifying their subjugation. Weird. One in MN said just yesterday that women seem like whiners when they fight for equal pay workplace. Is this really how republicans are going to court female voters?
To be honest Wendy is a bit b****y -- but i've spoken with her mole several times now and the mole controls her policy decisions -- so late term abortions are OUT ~ FYI. You heard it here first!
If I am a greedy employer and I can hire a woman to do the same work for less, why would I hire a man?
Abbott, under pressure from the Davis campaign (and the women on his own staff), finally admits he would veto equal pay. Greg Abbott Falls into Wendy Davis’ Trap, Admits He Would Veto Equal Pay in Texas
Men Have Deep Ties To GOP Women's Group Attacking Wendy Davis Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis is under attack from a Republican women's advocacy group — with two men with deep ties to the organization. The men linked to RedState Women, the group that came under fire for attacking equal pay, are former Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) chief of staff Mike Toomey and Dave Carney, who the Dallas Morning News describes as a Texas "political guru." Toomey also previously ran Perry's presidential super PAC in 2012. The two aren't on the board of the group but they have strong ties to the organization. RedState Women's president, Lara Laneri Keel, is a partner at the Texas Lobby Group, where Toomey is the biggest name. The Dallas Morning News also notes that the biggest beneficiary of RedState Women's work is Attorney General Greg Abbott, the Republican nominee in the gubernatorial race, whose consultant happens to be Dave Carney. The Texas Observer noted that the group has declined to disclose its financial backers, and said that "information wouldn’t be available before this summer’s round of financial reports, some four months away." The group recently caught national attention when Red State Women PAC's executive director, Cari Cristman, said that Texas Women are too "busy" for an equal pay law.
Today Wendy Davis to Abbott "act like a Texan!" Wendy Davis to Greg Abbott: “This Texas gal is calling you out” "I have a message for Greg Abbott today," Davis said at a speech in Austin. "Stop hiding behind your staff members. Stop hiding behind your surrogates. This Texas gal is calling you out. Act like a Texan and answer this question for yourself: What on earth is going on at your attorney general's office?"
not much hope for her campaign, this move would seem to further dim her odds. hasn't she already replace someone high up in her campaign this year? http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/06/wendy_davis_replaces_campaign.html
if i'm her campaign, i'm targeting all of those californians moving in to the state. arnold, and even the last candidate for cal gov, meg whitman, shared many of this nominee's positions. the changing demographics (and political positions) are going to become really interesting to watch over the next few years.
