Good task list. There might not be a need to get rid of Miller though unless his salary is tacked on to a trade. He has been doing a good job of mentoring his team mates. Good summary of the Rockets' to do list though.
True, but that doesn't mean they can slack off when it comes to adapting. My problem with Morey is I think he's scared to go the full mile to become a contender - he's using some predicate logic scheme that eventually a superstar will become available and he will have enough "assets" to pull off a deal. Unfortunately, this league revolves around top 5 picks. Favors was the main pawn in the Deron trade. Gallinari was a #6 pick who barely gave the Knicks enough to put together a package for Carmelo. The Rockets don't have high ceiling talent. They have steady role players like Scola and martin who will not be able to bring back a superstar or top 5 pick in return. IMO, their best option as a result is to let go of guys that make them mediocre instead of ass awful, and pack the team with high ceiling two way players. They're also going to have to suck very bad for a year or two, because when a franchise makes a transition, it is necessary to have a cornerstone. When Robinson went down, what did the Spurs do? They tanked hard, got lucky, and got Duncan. I'm not expecting the Rockets to get Duncan, but in terms of assets, a top 5 pick is far MORE valuable than all the Courtney Lee's and Kyle Lowry's in the world added up. Ya dig?
Trade Scola, Budinger, and Williams for Granger. Trade a future first and use Battier exception to trade for Speights. Let Carrol go. Resign Hayes and resign Yao to a modest contract. Extend Thabeet. Bring over Lull if he is ready and draft the best player available (hopefully a SF) in the draft. Lowry/Dragic Martin/Lee/Lull Granger/ (rookie?) Hayes/Patterson/Hill Speights/Yao/Miller/Thabeet Still not a championship caliber team unless Yao is healthy (good luck huh?) but it would be a better team. Also, there's always the possibility Thabeet will pan out. So my answer is none of the above.
I voted to stay the same because my choice was not in the poll. With the new CBA or a lockout coming I don't know how trades and things like that will work. Will they work like the CBA we have now, then be adjusted to meet the new CBA? Or does it not matter at all... BimaThug...shoutout. And if there is a lockout will players be able to still workout with the coaching staff if they choose to? #1.) Our coach! We have to have a coach before we start ripping the team apart or making major roster moves. #2.) I'm sure DM has his plan ready to go and I think it will start at this years draft. DM and Les should decide on coaching first then make trades and draft players the coach needs or wants. #3.) We have a good core group of players to work with. We are missing an athletic rebounding defensive big man. Our offense can put points on the board but we lack the size inside to stop the opponent from scoring at will inside the paint. Thabett is not ready and Hill needs work, work, and more work before he will become good defensively, or he may never become a good defender. If neither one is moved in a trade the lockout just gives them more time to work on their games. Our core group: Not listed in any particular order; Lowry Scola Hayes Lee Budinger Martin Patterson My list is of 7 core players we already have to build around. Who starts and who comes off the bench I really don't care. Starters will start and the others will sub in off the bench. All of them have started and can start for any team in the league. All we need now are 8 more players to go with this core of 7. One (If not 2) of the 8 that we add has to be an athletic rebounding defensive big man that can stay healthy all year. He does not have to be a scorer, just a defensive stopper/rebounder. Les and DM know what they are going to do already. We will be let in on their plan when they feel like letting us know, which is when trades, drafts, and signings are already done deals. So we are all just guessing until anything happens on paper. zzpot puff puff
Im in favour of trading Scola and Martin but only if we can upgrade a starter spot on our roster. Our most glaring needs are defensive presenses at the 3 and 5, so if we could find a quality starter who fill those needs at those spots, then I am all for it. But Martin and Scola should NOT be traded just for the sake of blowing this team up or young prospects. Why gamble on rebuilding? Rebuilding often includes many trial and error type phases. Its not like any young guy we find is going to be solid gold. We are going to suck for at least 3-5 years to come. We should just hold on to what we have and still compete untill we find the right pieces. This team can make the playoffs if the right players play and the wrong players dont play. In the mean time we can still accumulate draft picks and young prospects and strike when the right opportunity presents itslef. Kyle, Dragic, Lee, Pat and Hayes are the only unotuchbles on my list because they are all young 2 way players (except Chuck, who may not add offense but he certainly has other dimensions besides defense). I dont want anymore one way players no matter how good they are at their craft.
This is quite possibly the dumbest thread Ronny's posted so far. Yet I have to give my reply: The squad has been playing like a 4-5 seed since the all star break. With AB out of the picture, Courtney Lee and Chase Budinger given bigger roles, this team has become that much more younger, better defensively, and experienced all at the same time. We do absolutely need a center taller than 6'6" but you gotta give it to Chuck he and Lowry have been MVPs for this half of the season. I say add a Marcus Camby like C and you've got yourself a hell of a playoff team. I like Scola but I do think Patrick can fill in a bit better bringing offense and shot blocking to the PF postion. Hill would be a good backup but that's about it. Anyway that's my take. Thanks for reading.
Trade Scola for future prospect, BLOW IT UP Fire Adelman and become defensive oriented Hope a superstar becomes available for Kmart + youth
Ironic that you compare hope for a superstar to Nazis persecuting Jews, then say Let's stay grounded in reality. By the way, in the interest of reality, you might edit to say "Nazis murdered millions of Jews."
Can the Rockets sign Yao to an incentive based contract? For example, can they offer him the veteran's minimum with incentives based on games played and/or on-court performance? I think that if they were able to retain him with this sort of deal, it would be the best of both worlds because it would offset the majority of the risk associated with keeping him on the roster. Maybe something like a 3 year deal with a team option for the second year and a player option in the third... From what this team has shown this season, it really seems as if they are just a legit center and an upgrade at SF from being a top 5 team in the NBA. No matter how shrewd a team's front office is in terms of personnel moves and mgmt, there is still a lot of luck involved in winning a ring. Hope the Rockets luck turns around after this season.
I hate the option of "blowing it up," because it implies just trading for the best prospect that you can get, no matter how much of a sure-thing they are or how much potential they really have. All for the sake of saying "we are younger." This team's situation just simply isn't that dire or hopeless.
at least hill is throwing up a houston sign - isn't that denver harbor lil red ? o no... my furr high school is showing.
TWill looks like he belongs in LA (got 3 teams to choose from if Kings move to Anaheim) JHill looks like he belongs in rehab. I'm psyched about the rest of the core. Definitely need PP in there too.
